    I need some advice.

    This is my first character that I have ever gotten past dlvl 25. I have been playing this game extremely slowly over the past 8 or so months. As I have been playing it for so long I would be very sad to see this character die so far into the game. (dieing at Morgoth's hands would be good enough for me)

    As I have never really gotten a character to have more than just a couple artifacts at the same time, I'm not entirely sure how lucky I am with the artifacts I have right now. But as I have gathered, +35 speed is very good though.

    I play in a very slow way, I clear out every level completely if at all possible. Throughout all the game I have never used ranged weapons to kill anything, but since the creatures at this depth are getting so difficult to kill I am contemplating getting some bolts for my crossbow.

    I have kept artifacts in my home that I think are powerful, and I think I might need to switch my helm soon.

    If you fine people have any comments or suggestions on equipment, diving strategies, dlvl that I should be at now, or anything else, I would love to hear it.

    I'd say wear Barahir instead of your speed ring, ring of acid instead of flames, rohirrim instead of the belgannon, and dor-lomin instead of Holhenneth.

    Doing this will give you telepathy at the cost of 10 speed and rBlind. 35 speed is way overkill, due to diminishing returns it's not so great. 25 is plenty, and you can use potions of speed for morgoth later.

    Telepathy will save you more often than blindness, and if you are blinded you'll still be able to see 95% of the monsters you are fighting because of it. You have staves and such for escapes that you can use until you get out of being blinded. Plus you resist light and dark, so not much can blind you anyway.

    oh and Carry Taratol with you at all times, you can swap it out for the glaive if you need immunity to lightning.

    edit: Essentially, you have good enough gear to easily win with.

      Definitely you have more speed than you need. For reference: Feanor is a very rare find, so congratulations on getting it. You don't need the speed ring, so keep an eye open for something else. ESP is very useful, though you won't find it on a ring slot unless you find a Ring of Power (Narya, Nenya, Vilya, and the One Ring all have telepathy and are all worth using).

      Otherwise your gear looks pretty solid. No major resistance holes, good damage output, and plenty of hitpoints.

        I agree that ESP is your biggest hole and speed 35 is overkill.
        However, if you make the swaps above, keep your hat for detection. (No rods of Detection at all?) And carry belthronding as a swap. Disenchantment is worth having available, and Cubragol's damage is only significant vs monsters vulnerable to fire.
        (That's another reason to wear a ring of Acid or Lightning instead of Flames.)

          Not sure why it did not list all of my activatable abilities in that dump, but the arkenstone also has a detection spell, exactly like the helmet but a shorter cool down time.

          Anyways, I found the crown of numenore, which would cover my disenchantment, blind and shard resist. Unfortunately no ESP. Is this worth it?

          Also found a balance dragon scale mail, not sure if it would be better than what I have currently though.

            If you really want to do a lot of damage, branded ammo is the way. You should be saving ego arrows and even non-ego seeker arrows for use with Bard. With Feanor, you should be looking for a way to leave Cubragol at home. I'd wield Belthronding with Bard available as a swap to shoot dragons, but that's assuming a collection of ego arrows.

              I'm sure it has been explained elsewhere, but for the life of me I cant find it... how much diminishing returns is there for having huge amounts of speed? If somebody can explain to me how speed works, or link me to something that explains how speed works that would be great.

                  Does the game save your extra speed that was unused from last turn? Or does is just revert to 0 every time you use a turn.

                      Ok, I have progressed to about dlvl 90. And I run into the very nice adamant armor "soul keeper". I just cant figure out a good way to put this piece of armor into my selection in a way that seams to work well, I thought that the making it the way it is now would be the perfect way to do it, but the massive melee loss from switching from the glaive of pain makes it very difficult to play the way I normally do. I could go completely over to arrows, but I would need to get some good ones first. What do you think would be the best way to use all of this equipment?

                        Next game, hold onto:

                        Found The Set of Gauntlets 'Pauraegen' (LOST)

                        The standard artifact set often leaves you missing rElec, so those gauntlets are extremely valuable.


                        Generally speaking, you want to use an amulet of trickery and you want to avoid Barahir. You have Dor-Lomin for ESP, which also covers rElec. Maybe that will work. If you want to stick with your current hat for some reason, look for a ring of lightning.

                          Yea i kinda want to stick with my current hat because of shard/blindness resist. But yea! Ring of lighting seems like it will work perfectly.

                            Blindness & RShards is not worth a big hit in damage, especially for a warrior.
                            The usual solution here is to wield your best combo, and carry alternates as a swap. (In this case, the alternates are Numenor for blindness/shards and Taratol for IM_ELEC.) And at base speed > 25, you can afford to be slowed a little from carrying extra stuff.

                            With RDark,RLight, and ESP, RBlind is not all that useful, especially for a warrior.

                              Unfortunately I died. The great terresque breathing a blast of disenchantment was the last thing my battle weary eyes had seen. Good night Borguil, you will be missed.

                              I kinda doubt I will be playing angband for a while, maybe ill pick it up in a few years after I beat some other rogue likes. My goal is to beat the big 4 (angband, crawl, nethack, adom). I already ascended in nethack and was really hoping for a victory here. Oh well, the massive amount of time that needs to be invested in a character just looks unappealing to me now, especial after I discovered most of the artifacts already, although playing a randart game could be fun. Oh well, see you guys sooner or later, sooner if i get lucky in crawl and pull off a win.

                              And just to say, I had a lot of fun in the dungeon of angband, bravo to those of you who have had a hand in its development. Compared to nethack in a lot of ways it was more fun, completely different game though really.
