    Spoiler help

Hi, i'm new to angband. Got this great character going (for me at least) but he hasn't Free action. Is that really, really, really as abd as many sources tell it?

Also, main reason for this thread, the ftp. spoiler files don't work for me. can't open/ download them. Anyone know why and how i can remedy to this? thanks

Below 22, you can be killed easily without FA and i think that it is necessary. You can use the on-line spoilers on oook if you're playing V, but watch out, artifacts can be different.

Google for "angband spoilers". First result is the one you want - there are none more up to date than those.

People have been below 3000' without free action - you just have to be careful of paralyzers, because one shot of paralysis can ruin your whole day. If you don't know which monsters can paralyze, then you need FA as soon as possible.

          Every level is 50', so 3000' == level 60.

At level 15 you should still be okay for a bit without Free Action. However, you'll be wanting to look for a source of it soon. Common sources include Rings, Gloves, and Boots of Free Action, Defender weapons and weapons of Westernesse, and artifacts. It sounds like you have random artifacts on (hence the odd name for the Phial), so figuring out which artifacts have FA is going to be a bit of a trick.

Or will just involve staves and scrolls of identify at times.

              if i understood correctly, i continue explorin (i won't go under 1000')
kill orcs till one drops a thing of FA, or till the town enerates one...

On a side note. How to get resistance to blindness? Those light hounds are realy hating me.

You can continue exploring carefully, watch out for thing that are undead, and (non-spoilery version) a few others. FA isn't really that hard to find. Resist blindness is a bit tougher. Some helms and armours have it as well as some ego/artifact weapons, but you'll likely have to go without for a while. Use potions to combat blindness in the meantime.

I think the only items that are guaranteed to have resistance to blindness in a random-artifacts game are helms of Seeing. Otherwise, that resist can randomly show up on Elvenkind armor (which has a random "high" resist -- i.e. any resistance which is not fire, cold, lightning, or acid) and can, of course, show up on artifacts.

Armor of elven kind looks cool on me. need a *identify* to know what is the high resistance though.

Another question : the black market has
                    a Steel Helm of Infravison [6+11] (+2)
                    and
a Staff of *Destruction* (4 charges)
should i buy one or the two of those? got enough $

Buy the staff if your failure rate is low enough - it's a guaranteed escape as it removes all monsters in the radius. Ignore the helm - infravision is not much to write home about.

What version are you running? There are no *identify* scrolls in the latest version, so just use a normal ID on your elvenkind armour and you'll see its high resist.

Elven armor gives the Nexus resistance. Thank a potion of Self knowledge.

Paralysis attacks have changed in the most recent version, 3.1.2. I have survived a couple of times after being paralyzed by monsters with a melee paralysis attack.

I also disagree with the entire idea of waiting to find some particular resistance before going deeper. There is real danger in hanging out at supposedly easy levels that is hard to quantify, and it is a lot bigger than you think.

If you do die to lack of FA, think of that as your chance to move on to 3.1.2.
