I wouldn't get Infravision unless you really don't have a good helm right now. Even then it's probably a better idea to save up for stat gain potions or Rings of Damage. Staves of *Destruction*...ehh, pass. They can be worth carrying if you find them, but I wouldn't buy one. What they do is cause a massive earthquake effect that removes all monsters and non-artifact items from the area. They can be invaluable for clearing greater vaults, but those are so rare that that use shouldn't factor into your decision-making. Mind you, Scrolls of *Destruction* make great last-ditch escape items; I'm pretty sure they're the safest escape in the game, in fact.

Then I deserve some blame for telling you to move along. Or maybe you will enjoy the changes in 3.1 and it can be some credit.Comment

If you have the GP to spare, I'd take the *destruction* over infravision. It's a fail safe escape, and provides you with a few turns to regain your composure, providing you can activate it in a pinch.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. You can [I]nspect an item that's in your inventory, that's equipped [I + /], or that you're standing on [I + -].www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

How does one SEE the dump? on mac?
And are rings of evasion any good? i got 3 of them.Originally posted by DerakonSadly, every character ever created in Angband was given a magnifying glass by their eccentric uncle for their fifth birthday...Comment

You can view you character screen by pressing [C] (access second page by [space] or [h]). The dump contains a little more info [C + f], then locate (usually angband/lib/user/) the file and open it with any word processor.
I think rings of evasion give a speed boost, in exchange for greatly reduced melee and missile attacks. I'm not sure, but they may not effect spell casting, or rods, staffs, and wands, so you may find the rings somewhat useful as a swap, especially on the early levels. If you're going to wear one, might as well wear two of them, but you don't need four. Rings of teleportation {uncursed} are better IMO.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. * splendid = an ego item having at least a special power that is obvious on wield (stat bonuses, brands, but not slays and resistances),
* excellent = an ego item that has no obvious powers
* ego = an ego item you haven't worn yet (otherwise it would be one of the other two)
This criterion hasn't failed me up to now.
Notice that this implies that you can safely squelch all non-splendid weapons for the most part of your game -- the best thing they can be is slay-something.
An item is fully identified when either:
-you have learnt-by-use all of its flags (e.g., when someone breathes fire on you, you learn the resist_fire flag)
-you identify it via scroll/staff/spell
When this happens, 'I'nspecting it does not say 'it may have hidden powers' anymore, and you get to know its full name (e.g. "a rapier (holy avenger)", or "the phial of Powerdiver").--
