48 speed is overkill, you could swap out your crossbow for bard or better yet belthondring if you find it (rdisenchant yay!)

38 and 48 speed is practically no difference, 3 energy actually according to tables.c

After an appropriate period of mourning, I've got another kobold rogue descending into the dungeons (last one died to overconfidence in a conflict with balrogs). I've been trying to dive a little quicker and not worry about making money, and it -is- kind of nice to not collect every single magic item and recall to town constantly to sell everything. I should've done this a long time ago.

The really nice thing is if you just worry about the big ticket items and keep going down, you even make money faster. Nothing on DL1-20 is going to make up for the cash you'd be getting on DL30-40, etc.

I found a hard leather cap that pseudoed as {splendid}. It turned out to be a hard leather cap of intelligence.

So, what causes an item to pseudo as "splendid" rather than "excellent?" Stat bonuses, maybe?

This and randarts have reinvigourated angband for me.

I used to do these plodding early games and it sucked much fun out of the game. Now all I do is kill farmer maggot, take anything he drops, then head straight down

Actually, ego items will pseudo-id as "ego." But if you equip them, they will turn into either "excellent" or "splendid" depending on if they have obvious bonuses. Stat bonuses, speed, stealth, weapon brands, and abilities like ESP are all obvious as soon as you equip an item, and will mark it as "splendid." Resistances and abilities like slow digestion, feather falling, and free action will only be noticed once you experience the effect.

Thanks for the info, Dice. I can stop staring at my stats every time I wield something, and only take particular note when it shows up as 'splendid.' Handy.

I broke the curse on a Whip of Morgul and am currently using it for the See Invisible. Is this thing going to spontaneously re-curse itself on me or anything?

OK, that's a first. I've used bows of the Nazgul for SI, but I've never heard of anyone using Morgul weapons by choice, despite their nice set of effects. (Aggravation at early levels usually means death.)

Nevertheless, weapons of Morgul won't re-curse themselves. If you think you can use one to good effect, knock yourself out.

Also, post a character dump: it will be a first.

Hah. Too late. Died to Mugash, though I was using a rapier at the time.

                        I think I stumbled on a little father-son outing.

Actually, they're pissed at each other, and they're gonna have a duel to the death.

Then you showed up and got in the way....

Well hey, my character is a priest. Maybe I can make them put aside their differences by finding some common ground.

Yeah, see? They've agreed on something, and they've decided to work together. Good job, you two, I knew you could- ... wait. What are you doing? Don't look at me like that- oh, crap. <m2b>

Hey! I thought this was a family-friendly game.

So that's why you sometimes find a lone kobold in the corner by himself ...
