That's so you know it's {average} (eg, non-ego), which is at least theoretically independent of attack bonuses.

Seems kind of odd that it's immediately referred to by type.

Also, as I mentioned in another thread, I really can't wait until the old "k" destroy item functionality is restored. Selecting "n" every time I want to destroy potentially useful potions/scrolls is driving me crazy.
This is because "Of Power" and "Of Accuracy" don't have any special abilities, so everything is known about them immediately. (It's a little wonky for UI, but there's really no extra knowledge granted by announcing this on pseudo-ID.)

I really really like this new release. It seems tighter, more focused. Just raising the prices on launchers changed the whole game for me. I like the new pseudo-id, and i find it makes the early game much more interesting. I look forward to refinements in the engine. Once I was meleeing a green naga, when "your shield glows." That was a cool surprise. That's cool for me because I still spend most of my time under stat gain.

I do find that I rely on the ring shop identify bug. I'll keep a ring then take it back to the shop to see how much is offered, so I know whether it's worth keeping. It seems to be too risky to sell a ring that might be useful to id it, and too risky to wear it in dungeon for fear of getting a ring of the dog, and too expensive to spend 110 gold on a ?id for a ring that probably won't sell for even that much.

I guess I'm pinching pennies uselessly. But 40 gold can make a real difference sub-1500'

I think Deep Descent is underpriced. They should be at least 200 gold in the BM. I prefer them to TLevel.

            - Character screen crash should be fixed
            - Things that activate can be learnt entirely by psuedo-ID when they couldn't before
            - Only make the trample/push past message happen when monsters are visible (this will be tweaked further at a later date)
I don't know about the download from the frontpage of rephial, but I still get "pushes past" messages for ESPed monsters not in LOS in r1621.

Yes - detected by ESP counts as visible in the context of the fix to which Takkaria is referring. That's why he notes that it is to be refined later ...

(Before this fix, you would get those messages from totally undetected monsters ...)

Ok, I have a stupid newb question: Is there a way to update from one sub version to another, or should you just copy save files into the new directory?

I'm on an Angband resurgence bender lately, you guys are going a great job. I like the new version a lot. My favorite change is probably detect traps (and other detects) having a set range rather than the screen size. I've finally started using sub windows, and I'm loving every minute of it!

                Thanks!

Unless I'm totally wrong, you can just paste the new files to the directory you're using, and delete the .raw files inside data (I don't know if scores.raw inside apex should be deleted too). I don't know if it's needed, but I only switch versions while on the town, never inside the dungeon :s

Ok, thanks, that crossed my mind, but I certainly wouldn't have known to delete the .raw files. I'll keep up your superstition of only updating while in town

It's a good idea to update in town. Also, there's no need to delete the raw filed.

I believe the changes were made in r1626.

On the Nightlies page, it says "Warning! If extracting over a previous nightly, then please delete the ".raw" files in lib/data. Not doing so could cause problems like corrupt savefiles."

So, now that I've actually play R1626, I've got to jump on the band wagon and insist that the whole destroy/squelch Q&A be reworked immediately. It's super annoying!!!
I reiterate my choice of k=destroy and K=destroy + squelch.

Also, I just quaffed a Light Brown Potion of Resist Cold!!! What's up with that? I fear change.

Yeah, that's why I delete them :s But if takkaria says it's not needed anymore, I trust takkaria

The squelch system gets some using to, but I do it without thinking now, like the verb/noun stuff when selling/buying

The problem is that I wrote both the nightlies page and the forum post. The nightlies page applies when playing the nightlies... but not when playing new versions of 3.1.1. Basically, the raw files are straightforward dumps of the memory Angband reads the lib/edit/ files into, and the way that memory is used can change from nightly to nightly. It won't change from bugfix release to bugfix release, though.
