Yeah, after writing that I noticed that also 1 pick, 1 shovel...

I find the decision to omit lanterns totally from the store a bit odd, especially as they are less of a step up from torches now. Its not very realistic, but as a convention of the game, I don't really mind.

Been playing ironman (stairs not stores) this week, and I have completely appreciated the guaranteed cloak and shovel.

Release seems to be patched up nicely now, only managed to spot one bug, which is a pretty minor one. Well done you.
    You sold a Broken Sword (1d2) (-2,-4) {average} (j) for 1 gold.
    The shopkeeper howls in agony!
You say "Dude, the clue is in the name...".

The choice was between removing torches and making lanterns not appear in shops. It makes torches not be junk for much longer-- i.e. until you find a lantern.

What was the bug? EDIT: oh, I see it in the other thread now.

Hey I'm the guy who started this thread and rather negatively critized the changes made in the new version. Well, I'd just like to say that I like how the game is now better than before the changes, now that I've gotten used to it.

I have my problems with the new shop system too.
I am constantly buying things I don't want. Im just too used to hit return. Also I miss the sounds in the shop that I had with the sound patch in v. 3.0.6. These sounds might be helpful to get trained to the new system.
But I doubt that I will get used to it.
The newly turned on changes in monster behavior are also not my taste. Monster crowds don't follow in hallways which on one side makes it more difficult to kill them on the other side you are quite save there because they don't follow.

There are several other things - why is autoscum for good levels off by default? Nothing ist more boring than boring levels.
Also I am missing the option to Identify items on floor by reading the scroll and then hit - once.

            one major complaint

sometimes i go to my house to drop off items i want to keep for later, and i get stuck in the drop menu and cant escape out of it no matter what ... escape key doesnt work, all i can do is drop items. the first time i did this i had to close angband thru windows and lost all progress since the last save, including a nice hat of telepathy :/

I like the new lanterns and torches.
Also the changing light radius of torches is a nice feature.

I had some weird transactions with the shops. Selling artifacts and dsm got me only ~half of the shops maximum money (for example selling Osondir gave me ~2500 though the shop had 5000 and Osondir is worth much more). My charisma is 16.

I think that Vanilla is getting much better overall...
The stupid AI as default was lame... It should be as it is, if the player wants to fight stupid monsters, then turn on the stupid monster option (or whatever)...
Well, i´ll comment also on stuff to-be implemented:
The concept of New ID and the rebalance of drops already in the todo (Takkaria: have you read my posts here? seems awesome and may kill the need for mass identify.
Circular detection radius is kick@ss! (xcept for 1-detect munchkins)
The squelch system is good, but infant; The idea of actually not destroying stuff, but making the player ignore squelched items is awesome!
The shop is slighty annoying in the start but better than before, after you get the hang of it.
Browsing thru the feature and dev lists, too many awesome stuff...
Takkaria is doing a great job and made me want play more [V]! Thanks dude!

That is a bug that has been fixed in SVN. I wouldn't mind seeing a V3.0.9a with this fixed (it's a one-line fix). The problem is flow-by-sound isn't working because the allowed maximum range is too short.

Eh...it depends on what you need. Boring levels still can have useful stuff.
Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)
                    Z.C++: pre-alpha C/C++ compiler system (usable preprocessor). Also on Hg. Z.C++ 0.0.10 ETA December 31 2011

                        Hiding in plain sight(monster behavior)

The monster behavior seems to be really wierd since version 3.0.6 that I was playing until downloading 3.0.9. I noticed that monsters would not take obvious paths to me. I could heal up with monsters nearby without fear of them attacking. The most noteworthy and recent example was this:

                        h
                        #
                        #
                        @

In this example above I was standing in the hallway 2 squares below the dark elven mage that was in the hallway above me, both opening into a room. I could stand a few squares back in the hallway or in the entrance to the room and he would not path down to me. I could regain all mana over and over and he wouldn't come down towards me.

I've noticed in other situations that I would be in a hallway above a room near the left top of the room where the doorway would be and the monsters in the room below me that were near the top right of the room, would not scoot over and come into the hallway even when I was within 2 squares of the entrance, I had to come around the corner to get them to stop dancing with each other and come after me(This was not due to the smart packs as it wasn't pack animals and I didn't have the option turned on). Or I noticed I could be within 10 squares of a monster standing in a straight horizontal hallway, but the monster wouldn't move until I came around the corner from the hallway below. He would just do his stutter dance between two spots until I stepped into his direct line of sight.

I noticed lots of problems like that too - I'd suspect that it has to do with the fact that the monster_flow got accidentally changed to 3 instead of 32? This was still at three when 3.0.9 was released, but is now fixed in svn.

Sorry, it's the online code development tracker (http://dev.rephial.org/trac), so that several people can all work on the same code at the same time. It has the most up to date bug fixes and new features (though it's often still buggy) Bugs and such can be reported to that site.

A copy of the game is compiled from the the tracker each night and is availible (for windows) at http://rephial.org/nightlies/

That I really don't recommend you play right now, given the super-abundance of speed potions at 50'.
