3rd'ed. And perhaps a +1 Charisma bonus too.

      > You are wearing a fur clock.
      > You feel like a 70's New York Pimp.
      > The battle scarred vetran glances over at the boil covered wretch and offers you some gold.

If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.

It's really quite tempting to add that.

I know that time resistance is tempting, but don't do it!

Maybe make an ego type "of warmth" or something that fur cloaks can become - but it seems kind of odd for fur cloaks to be the only base item that consistently gives resists (other than the dragon scale mail).

(EDIT: if you *really* feel the need to add cold resistance to the cloak that is. Which I don't think it needs.)

                          Then why not add more?

I'm in favor of base types that Do Stuff. Heres some ideas...

                          -- Already in V --
Mithril Shield - back to the old Shield of Deflection? RLight or RShards?
Pair of Ethereal Slippers - Feather Falling
Ethereal Cloak - back to the old Shadow Cloak, RDark?

                          -- New stuff --
Elven Boots (or Felt-soled Shoes?) - Stealth
                          Troll Hide Armour - Regen
Berserker Helm or Dragon Helm - RFear

You guys are all crazy. A fur cloak is a thermal insulator, nothing more. Whatever effect is has upon magical cold attacks, it should have an equal effect with respect to magical fire attacks. I would not be surprised if leather scale mail [with its lining] has just as many insulative properties as a fur cloak.

Resistances are magic. Please leave it that way.

If you want to invent some particular magic animal, with magical fur, then that's OK. Preferably a unique that you have to hunt to get it. Otherwise, please just accept fur as the simple description it was intended to be.
