    undead beholders

Any point in fighting 'em whatsoever? I generally -TA them since they're such a pain in the neck. No drops, tough, summoning, netherbolts, etc. etc. I mean, I can eventually hack one to death, but aren't there easier ways to get big XP, like drolems?

I love killing them just because I hate the horrible buggers so much.

Of the three categories of monster, kill, ignore, and evade, undead beholder comes definitvely in the latter.

          'd', 'D', 'p', 'h', 'P' and 'T' mostly, I'm guessing...

Also 'o', 'O', 'C' and 'u' in the early game, and 'U' in the later game. And there are always exceptions (Grand master Mystics, Dark Elven Sorcerors, Titans, ... )

These haven't seemed so tough when I've run into them. Have I been lucky?

If you can deal with +20 speed and frequent summoning, you're fine

Yeah, I routinely dig a little anti-summoning corridor for myself when I detect a summoner or anything that sounds remotely like it could be a summoner (which is any magical humanoid below about 1250', haha). I guess I'm not all that lucky...

This is largely context dependent. Basically anything easily defeated with a good or great drop, or with unusually high EXP for current CL.

For EXP, this may mean C,Z,D,T. For drops, it may mean o, T, weak p, Wyrm, or U. (Weak mobs give effecitvely good drops if there is a chance they will yield a needed stat potion.) In the early midgame, 'd' is a good target. But this is largely character dependent; slays brands, resists, immunities, HP, and character class can move a monster from 'kill' to 'evade' or 'ignore', or vice versa.

Nobody mentioned Emperor WIghts or Death Quasits so far. Those are the two I used to clone.

                        Because they don't drop gold?

Because they're both usually 1-shot-kills at high level and drop a lot of goodies. Death quasits are my favorite. Taste great with some lemon and garlic.

Mumakil and Glazrebus are particular early favourites for FAA thralls

(actually, it's a ladder for most thrall chars - an elemental 'b' or 'F' for the first kill and CL15ish, then a Glazrebu or two, then Mumakil once the char is Lvl 20something with a decent weapon. Repeat until running into a Will'O'The'Wisp and YASD...)

Heh, I only play with 2 categories. If I can kill it, it goes in 'kill', if it's gonna kill me it goes in 'evade'. This is usually determined after hitting the monster a few times which has led to more than a few deaths.
