    Shield ...

    So, "Shield". The spell off Tenser's.

    Am i right in assuming it *does* work against throw attacks? For example, the attacks that Polyphaemus and the other giants have? "X throws a rock at you".

    No. Shield adds to your AC exactly like any armour. Boulders inflict pure damage (like monster arrows), which is not affected by AC at all.

      Since the arrow and boulder spells have a hit chance less than 100%, doesn't that cause a check against the player's armor (mon-spell.c:354-365 with the check against armor happening in check_hit())? Then the Shield spell would reduce the chance of a monster's boulders or arrows hitting.

        Yes, correct - I only checked the actual projection. Sky is talking about 4.1, but it's mechanically the same. So yes, Shield reduces the chance of hitting (but not the damage, unless I'm wrong about that too).
