    How do you mean? It was unrelated to the randart torch issue - at that time randart sets always had precisely one phial, one star and one arkenstone, and no other artifact lights.

      Artifact light sources always have a max level, depending on their quality typically lvls ~30 -50.

      They are also the best items for the light slot. So to get the best item for the slot, you might have to stop descending and hope to find it because once you move past that max level youll never be able to find them again.

      I dont care if I can find Narthanc in a lvl 98 vault or not; I really dont like it that I cant find the Arkenstone there. The pattern is: the deeper the more dangereous and the more profitable. This distribution breaks it.

      It is not _only_ light sources that can break the pattern, but for other items it occurs so rarely that it doesnt matter. I would suggest the simple change to just set maxlevel of all artifacts to 127.

          Check artifact.txt. The allocation lines for the Phial, Star and Arkenstone specify 100 or 127 (which are equivalent) and have since 2009 when the new allocation system was introduced.

          The special lights have their own base item types which I assume have the same maximum (though their base types aren't in object.txt anymore since a change Nick made a while after I stepped down and I don't know that code). I can't speak to randart generation.
