    Ignoring Items Problem

One longstanding Angband problem for me is that I auto-ignore an item and instead of ignoring the item I want it to ignore, it ignores something from from my inventory instead. For example, just now I tried to ignore a Ring of Accuracy on the floor and instead it ignored all my Rods of Illumination in my inventory.

Moreover, when this glitch happens, the items are not recoverable. When you go to the item ignoring set up, you discover that the disappeared item is NOT actually set on ignore, so there is no way to unignore it. If you ignore it, then unignore it, nothing happens. Basically, your items are toast.

Last night this also happened to me, in a late game situation in which Angband destroyed all my Rods of Teleport Other, forcing me to give up the game and start over.

This used to happen to me with 4.0.5 but until yesterday I did not see it happen with 4.2.x, so I thought the problem had been fixed. But apparently is has not been.

If it was just clumsy typing on my part (i.e. somehow accidentally selecting the wrong item to ignore), then I should be able to unignore and recover. But the game actually permanently destroys those items (though you will find new such items normally going forward).

    This is obviously pretty frustrating.

There is an unignore command - the letter O in roguelike keyset.

I'm not sure why that would do something...?

It and the equivalent in the original command set, 'K', toggle on and off whether your character can see ignored items on the level. So, if you're still standing where you set the rods of teleport other to ignore, you can:
        1. Press "O' (or 'K' in the original keyset) so you can see them.
        2. Then use ctrl-D (or 'k' in the original keyset) to unignore that stack.
        3. Pick up your stack of rods.
        4. Press 'O' (or 'K') again to toggle off seeing the ignored items.

Vanilla doesn't instantly delete ignored items; they're there until your character leaves the level, or the game runs out of space for objects and has to start purging some.

Except, as I've tried to point out, Angband is not registering the missing items as ignored, so there is nothing to unignore. It just disappears them.

Are you saying that you try to ignore one item, and instead the game permanently deletes a different item? Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, basically that's what I'm saying. It has happened to me countless times over the past several years, but with 4.2.x it only happened to me twice, once yesterday and once today.

I don't know if the game deletes all copies of that item anywhere on the level or only the ones in my possession. Thankfully it doesn't stop future such items from appearing. However, I'm still trying to find another Rod of Illumination to replace the ones I lost, which is certainly frustrating.

this sounds about as mysterious as my Icons folder magically disappearing. I have never seen it happen on my system.

                  Turning on "unignore" should help...

.. also, it seems this bug is destroying items, which i'm not even sure how it would happen? I thought squelch was no longer in the game.

I haven't seen this for a long time. It was a bug several iterations ago that I reported and you fixed, but I think that was in a long previous version. What version was the poster playing?

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”
