Ok so let's clear up some differences between theory and practice.

Blasting requires way too many turns of rest for most chasms for it to be a viable method of digging around them. Most chasms can't be tunneled around with just one or two tiles of digging. Horns of blasting have a way better reputation than they deserve. They are useful for the rare vaults that intentionally require getting through granite. That's about all they're useful for in practice.

Mattock of Belegost and boots of leaping work, yes, but they require enchantment, not just weaponsmith / armorsmith. Belegost requires 15 smithing skill as well, and that's not nothing. (And of course a pot of strength or an herb of restoration.)

Yeah I had a shovel & about 80 voice when I dug round, so it will certainly be more viable if voice costs do drop on horns.

On an unrelated note I made the mistake of fighting an orc captain with my back to a chasm today. Would have been even funnier if items could drop down chasms or I didn't have a backup weapon.

Just realized. One of the few ways to get distance from non-flying fast enemies. I.e. those enemies that can be really annoying for archers because they come close so fast.

Lol. Items dropping down chasms makes a lot of flavor sense, but that would be terrible.
