I like how you dropped to 1 HP (ep 4), then continued to take a few more swings, and then later said, "hmm, maybe I should heal"

Well, yes. But also, I think I mentioned this in the video -- there's a certain set of things you need to prepare for at 950', and once you have those bases covered and enough heavy metal to kill or survive everything, you really don't need to spend that XP to survive.
Since I'd found shit up to this point for weapons, I kinda wanted to pool the XP in case I found an artefact worth customizing the rest of my points around. I.e. if I'd found Calris or Saithnar, I might go all-in with Rapid Attack, but if I found say Glamdring and Aranruth it might make more sense to go Two-Weapon fighting.
Also I've had a couple Hador and Naugrim up to this depth, and even with them I've been able to do OK with pooling a lot of experience.Glaurung, Father of the Dragons says, 'You cannot avoid the ballyhack.'Comment

As a new player and someone who's never played any variant of Angband, I would like to say I really appreciate these videos. They make the game a whole lot more accessible. My third character followed your current guide and made it down to 750' before mistaking a balrog for a ringrauko, dashing in to kill it, then getting blinded by an amethyst serpent and promply splatted.
Are you planning to do more of these after this character? I'd really like to see someone who's good at the game play a smith. For some reason I'm addicted to smiths, but keep getting chased off of levels and can never manage to use enough forges. I've had a few who were lucky enough to find a forge every 100 to 150 feet and they ended up quite powerful until I killed them off in some fit of stupidity or another at around 800'. But most of them keep having to abandon levels to worm masses before they can ever find a forge.Comment

Thanks, but as a fair warning, I wouldn't really take any of my smithing videos as good examples of how to be a "pure smith". The protection-start and stealth archer series are both 1.0.2, and smithing has changed quite a bit since then. The artistry start is a good example of how to use smithing to get a strong start, but it doesn't transition well into pure smithing builds imo.
TBH I really can't deal with smithing anymore, it's an interesting mechanic in Sil but the min-maxiness and analysis-paralysis is just mega not fun for me. I'd rather just play based on what the game tosses my way now.
Having said that, I am totally open to casting games from other players that use smithing-heavy builds, and I should soon have access to a bunch of ttyrecs of a variety of different games, so hopefully I can do a pure smith series sometime soon.Glaurung, Father of the Dragons says, 'You cannot avoid the ballyhack.'Comment
