    Confusion over save directory

I'm playing both Sil 1.3 and Sil-Q 1.5 on Windows 11, each game in it's subdirectory under D:\Games. When I choose to open a saved character, each game shows the directory where I last saved a game, not necessarily the directory for the game I've opened. I can reproduce this.

I believe I've seen this happen with Vanilla when I install a new version.

I suspect it's that the games "look the same" to Windows, but I don't know in what way exactly.

Do their executable files have the same name? I recall getting similar behaviour from Angband variants.

I wondered the same, changed the name of the Sil-Q executable and .INI file. It didn't make a difference. My thinking now is that it has something to do with how the Windows file open dialog is called and that some parameter(s) don't get set or cleared. We're talking about C programs and Windows here. I've promised myself that when Nick releases the Sil rewrite I'll make another attempt to learn how *bands work, I'll investigate the file open process then.

It also happens when updating version of vanilla angband. Once you've solved this question you can move on to another mystery, why does closing a session of angband cause the music software on my computer to auto-play.
