Support for Acorn and other old systems. Status?

Have Acorn support been thrown out from Vanilla? Which other systems have had their support removed?
Has the support for the following all been removed or has it been moved to another file?:
- main-acn - Acorn
- main-cap - Termcap
- main-dos - DOS
- main-emx - OS/2
- main-ibm - DOS, another version
- main-lsl - Linux SVGAlib
- main-mac - Old macs
- main-sla - SLang
- main-vme - VM/ESA IBM mainframes
- main-xaw - X11 with Xaw widgets

My sense is that if anyone wants to maintain a platform (in terms of testing code on it and updating the port-specific code as needed) then we'll add/keep it. None of the current devs could test the code in question that we removed, and we didn't know of anyone else who could.

Let's lift the cat on the table and discuss NCurses a bit. Has Angband reached a point where support for that port is starting to restrict the rest too much? The rest of the ports are after all graphical and allows for a much more flexible display setup.

Nope. Plain terminal support is something that I'd consider essential to Angband. I've no problem with other ports doing stuff above-and-beyond that, but support for the plain terminal should always be there.

I'm glad to hear this. I think a lot of the dyed-in-the-wool players play this way.

As a screen junkie I certainly require the GCU port.

That said, I don't object to refactoring Angband so that other ports get cool features that GCU can't have (e.g. a map command that draws pixels to give a topographically-accurate minimap) and I don't want the GCU port to "block" those features.

But I think being able to play Angband in screen over SSH on my headless Linux server is important!

That said, I know enough about ncurses to sort of hate it, so I could imagine rewriting the "terminal-based" client to strip ncurses out. (Actually it's more accurate to say I periodically fantasize about this.)
