I wonder if the comp 216 winners will break 10K turns this time around.
Probably not. We used broken mechanisms (Blackguard, Paladin, Rogue) to achieve those stupid turncounts, I don't think it will be possible with a druid, but we'll see...
As Nick's said use an older version to avoid the run bug. I'm pretty sure all recent game play changes were necromancy or shield bash e.g. nothing that effects the druid.

There was a fairly recent change which will affect XP for first casting of spells, but the builds I quoted upthread have that change (and in fact are only missing a couple of minor bug "fixes").

Gwarl, since you have specified the character, the lack of a savefile looks like a bug on the competition page. As Ingwe mentioned in #216:
"Maybe make a notation on the Competition description that there is no starting save file even though the page has a download starting save file link."
Okay I changed the version on .live to what I deduce was the last build before the running bug was introduced. (Notably, it seems to not have been Nick's fault).

Which is what nightly version, for those downloading and playing off-line? The "variant" listed on the comp page remains the broken one. (Though I plan to play on-line and wouldn't mind a comp with on-line required).
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

4.1.3-212-g09fdd8c25 is the pre-bug version, which is the one I linked in post 3 of this thread.
The running bug is confusing because
it's a coding error found by someone else
it's clearly an error
but fixing the error creates the running bug.
Further complicated by the fact that I'm spending all my (regrettably little) Angband time on feature/monster.

And, FYI, a quick glance at the ladder will tell you that I have this one in the bag.
Pecked to death by a crow? An ignominious death, to be sure. It's happened to me too on occasion.

Hmmmmm.
There must be a better way.
You queue up HT Warrior and enjoy your life.
I get that foxform needs a penalty of some kind, given how powerful it is, but I wonder if not being able to pick things up is the best one? I probably can get on board with not being able to use spell books or magical devices or shoot missiles, but not being able to pick up objects or quaff I think is too much (and not much logical). What about an even bigger dex bonus and a constitution penalty?
