Competition 156

Competition 156 is up. It is a Vanilla 3.5 Half-Troll warrior, contributed by MattB!

You'll notice that this is a fairly 'easy' build + birth options for a competition; this is intentional, as over the next few days I'm going to try posting around to various other roguelikey places to invite new players to participate. If you want to help in this effort, please feel free

I'm afraid I may have already used up the luck for this savefile. I did a quick blast down to dlvl40 to get some monster memory for any newcomers (and then ctrl-c'd). She found Ethereal Openings on dlvl3 followed 5 minutes later by a lovely cutlass (Holy Avenger) on dlvl5! Expect _nothing_ in the first 10 levels this time round!

Dammit! I'm at dlvl21 with nothing but some boots of stealth (+1) to show for my efforts!

Dang... found out that you cannot recharge staves in shops with this version. The bug was fixed on the 3.5 release branch and not ported to master. Oh well, time to buy recharging scrolls...

When I try to move I sometimes get a <direction?> prompt, which seems sort of superfluous. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it.

In the first 10 levels of the dungeon the RNG gave to me: A potion of Augmentation, the cloak 'Colannon' and boots of speed +6.
EDIT: Later I also Narthanc, Totila, boots of speed +2 (lucky and useless), light x-bow of extra shots, and Cambeleg for good measure. Shame about my turnwasting tendencies.

Does it matter if it's 3.5 core release or one of the nightlies? I have started my comp character on a month-old nightly I think. I'll restart if there's a peep of protest, but I don't think there have been any substantive changes.

Edit: I just killed myself so I'll go and get the 3.5 core release now and head off any issues.

omg yes please, I was just lamenting that I was going to have to have to visit reddit, I've still avoided it somehow after all these years!
