I certainly have too. Also in later games when trying to get even, equipped with pStun I've died as a result of nastier hounds that were summoned.
Of all monsters in the game, no other gives me the same satisfaction as when killing a GMM. You just have to choose when it is a (somewhat) good idea and when not (default).

I generally take them on when I have high AC, and speed > 20. I have actually gone from fine to Heavy stun in one turn though, so I always watch the screen for status updates like a hawk.
