I am not exactly sure how to go about setting up this game. I've created a Mangband folder and unzipped both the server and the client into it. "replace mangband.cfg by the file attached to the previous post (rename mangband.cfg.txt to mangband.cfg)" the downloaded file is already called mangband.cfg not mangband.cfg.txt so i replaced that, but it's still listed as a text document.

and then "replace mangclient.ini by the file attached to this post (mangclient.ini.txt -- rename)" this file is already named mangclient.ini now here's where i'm getting really confused, where is the mangclient.ini file i am supposed to replace with this one? i see mangclient, mangclient_gcu, and mangclient_sdl but not mangclient.ini.

Sorry if this is something simple, but it's really confusing me.

It may be to do with your folder view settings. If they are set to not show file types (or whatever the exact option is called) it will show magnband.cfg.txt as mangband.cfg, but call it a text file. If you change that setting, it should show the full name. Once you rename and remove the .txt, it should ask you if you really want to do that because it might make the file not work; say yes. Then do the same with mangband.ini.txt, and with the Drakon.prf.txt file (which should go in the lib\user folder).

That was my problem too (file renaming) -- and the toggle is kind of buried in windows. Here is how to find it:

1.
Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

2.
Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, to display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

Ok now for the birth options... Some of them are server options, and I'd like to set LIMIT_STAIRS = 1 (disconnected stairs) and leaving all other options by default. See attached file.

For the client options, I'll only set birth_no_selling = yes. I'll generate a starting character and server file, please don't change birth options before starting playing (in PWMAngband, birth options can be changed until the character gains 1xp).

Regarding client and birth options, are we allowed to change the other options (excluding birth_no_selling and LIMIT_STAIRS = 1)?

Also, for my own purposes, is it okay to increase the FPS higher than 75? My internet connection sucks bad....if I'm playing online.

By the way, I'm not seeing too many other players at the Tavern. No one home?

But in my inventory a) b) and c) are filled with coins? Wasting some precious space.

Wow! Congratz, got a lantern of brightness from Wormtongue but that's it for egos from unique's so far. Did find 2 strength potions on a superb feeling level 4 though . I believe you can only post after either winning or dying, not 100% sure though.

Is there any way to see other players in-game-online while playing PWMAngband? e.g., watching other players beat up orcs in the dungeons?

You'd presumably all need to connect to the same server, which would create some perverse incentives in the competition.

A free-for-all multiplayer competition could be interesting, though!

You can increase FPS higher (I know ToMENet runs with FPS=100), but it would make the game ultra-speedy and you would be really lucky to survive a few turns...

And you can see other players... if you actually run a "remote" server (connected to the metaserver with a specific domain name) and ask other people to play on your server.

You can't dump alive characters in 1.1.9, but I'm planning to add this feature for 1.1.10 (which will be based on Angband 3.5). Good luck with your character, speed boots +10 will greatly increase survivability. I hope you got a nice dragon breed for this one...

Your inventory contains coins? This is really strange... What did you do to get that? Never seen that before...

Ive no idea how I got those coins. Also couldn't remove them with 'd'ropping those slots. But they were suddenly gone (and back a little after that).

Figured it out. If you fight and coins are dropped underneath you and you pick em up without moving (pressing g). It will then appear in your inventory.
