Competition 138 is now available from the competition page; it is an Angband 3.5-dev Dunadan Paladin.

Special mention to the facts that

• It is the same race/class combo as comp 137, to give a good comparison between 3.0.6 and where we are now and
• I think I have persuaded all the Angband devs to play it

Well, it's more just a comparison of the general gameplay (and UI). While the forced descent does make some difference to that, I think you can still get an impression of the differences.

I guess forced descent wasn't necessary, but it's also cool to try out.

I think the only changes during the comp will be bugfixes; if that's not the case, I'll tie it back to something equivalent to the current build.

What causes this 3.5 dev version to clock in at 18 megs? Just curious, about to start my competition character and noticed that 3.5 is about 5 times bigger than vanilla.

Ah that makes sense. So I would like to thank whoever's decision it was to make this competition with the no_selling flag on. Ever since getting used to that it has made the competitions a little more tedious than I prefer. Once you break the habit of hauling around gear to sell, it is hard to switch back.

My bad, I didn't see that 18 MB; git repository is not part of the exe download. Nick is right: 14 MB is the graphics; sound is another .5 MB.

It would appear that the turn count for 3.5 is broken as far as the competition ladder is concerned. It is still counted in the character dump file, but the website seems to not know where to read it from.
