It's looking somewhat slow.. I think this may be due in part to people not passing their previous efforts. Entro is also for masochists. I haven't finished with the comp yet - I've taken a little break - on account of maybe losing my mind if I have to go through the yeek cave one more time in the short term. I don't flatter myself to think I'll turn up a winner, but I plan to march on.

But I wouldn't be crestfallen if we tied this one up, or following the emerging competition M.O., started up a new one. What news of NPP0.5final? TONPPAFS has been quiet of late. Are you thinking of another comp in the interim?

      RE: Graphics -

I've since converted to ASCII, but when I first started playing I was a graphics person, so I can see why a lack of graphics in Entro would turn some people off. At first it seemed impractical to me for the sheer breadth of mobs and uniques that Entro has that there should be a separate tile for every one... but now I think I'd be curious to see the denizens of the mushroom kingdom and Barney the dinosaur, &c, all graphically represented, although it would be a herculean labor, and certainly branched from the DVG tileset as the others wouldn't allow for enough detail. Maybe not worth the effort, but it'd draw in some players, and it'd be interesting.

It is becoming clear that flexibility is the key to this job. My current plan is to start up a new comp in a few days, but leave the Entro one to run the full length. Given that NPP050 is not done yet, and FA036 is, I think FA is the obvious choice for the next one. I've had some discussions with Psi about what race/class it should be, and I'm hoping he'll send me a savefile soon () - with what must be almost complete monster memory.

The ones obviously clamouring for attention after that are NPP050, Portralis and V311; beyond that there are plenty of others that should be getting a turn soon.

As always, opinions and new information are welcome.

Sounds good to me. If I may make a request: I would like it if the starting char had a recall point in Amon Rudh - in my wanderings about FA I've spent altogether too little time in the dungeons and it'd be nice for a change of pace. And if you want to encourage wilderness exploration you could always make the char a low clvl. Just having the option of popping into the dungeon would be a great luxury.

I hope you all give it another go. There's a winner out there that can serve as a guide!
You inspired me to take another look at my character. The bad news is, apparently, he wasn't advance as I remember. The good is, although autosave wasn't on, the game is saved at a relatively recent point. So I will continue. Is is possible that the game saved on crash (as on close)? I did get a little pop-up window that I had to click OK on.

              I'm thinking...

Entish Rogue (yes I know it is hard to picture)
Disconnected stairs (obviously only applies in the dungeon in FA)
Complete(ish) monster memory (though there are some monsters I routinely avoid, so some stuff may be missing - you have been warned)
I'll play the char until I have a recall point in Amon Rudh 16 (but keep it low level)
Haven't decided whether to take the opening speciality yet

              Anything to add/modify?

Competition 64 is now officially finished - congratulations to Cave Man for the only game win.

                    Indeed, congratulations. A deserved win.
Thank you also to Nick and Donald for running the competition and providing the savefile respectively - I really enjoyed trying Entro for the first time and I hope others have too.

You're very welcome - it feels good to do something useful around here other than ask other people to improve things for my enjoyment.
