Yup, no box. I thought no one will be foolish enough to remove character name from the dump files. Well, seems Takka managed

    The box is there now.

Attention players: Vanilla dumps starting 3.1.0 no longer contain name of your character. So please make sure to fill it in manually when uploading your dump to the ladder, both competition ladder and regular.

You can still get to the dump manually, but not by clicking on the name because there is no name link to click on: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8459.

Character names don't seem to be on 3.1.0 char dumps any more. Bug?

I hadn't thought of that - that really would be cool. The angband comps could draw a lot of inspiration from the annual nethack devnull competitions, but you'd naturally need to adapt it so that it wouldn't be necessary to play on an online server (which I wouldn't be very keen on doing). Unfortunately I suppose this would put more work on maintainers.

    Other ideas:
    Minimum time/level.
    Maximum depth/turn or realtime

    Maximum uniques/turn or realtime
    Maximum artifacts/turn or realtime
    Most $/turn or realtime

    Most monsters killed/turn or realtime
    Fewest monsters killed/depth
    Fewest monsters or uniques killed/artifacts

These would obviously require some innovations in the character dump department.

Until this is implemented, I don't see any real value in a 'real-time' competition.

Afterwords, I see all types of new possibilities for victory.

Is "fastest winner" the first person to post a winner? Or is it fewest turns? The comp page says fewest turns, but an old suggested by Donald that you seemed receptive to: "This probably won't be popular, but you could do a real-time race to the finish: first person to win from the time the contest starts gets the gold" was otherwise.

I installed 3.1.0 to try out the competition, but I'm having no luck getting Elen to load. I've copied the 63 savefile over my 1000.username file, tried to open the file using the -uElen option... no luck. I run Ubuntu and configured --with-libpath=/usr/games/lib/angband and --bindir=/usr/games

Can anyone help? Nick, since I know you're a Linux user?

    Thanks

**EDIT** All saved games fail to load on my system... I'll tinker with this for a while to try to find the issue.

I fired up an Elen real quick just to see what was what. I found Mordy's escapes on the floor at 400'. Don't worry, I don't plan on letting her live long enough to use it. But it's gonna hurt - not like Lucky with his infinitely regenerating pdsm...
