After multiple near-death experiences to lack of SI, I finally got it. First, I found Gorlim, which unfortunately has heavy_curse. Then I picked up a Nazgul shortbow, certainly better. Than a weapon of *SlayUndead, pretty cool. Then another weapon of *SlayUndead and I wonder if the RNG is laughing at me. Then I return to town, and there is a ring of SI for sale.

No SI for a long time, and then 5 sources one after the other.

I guessing it's just my perception, but I find this similar circumstance to be true. Certain items, be they common or rare, will always be available in town... until I actually need one in particular, then there are none to be found.

Not quite the same, but... I had found only one source of FA, a Westernesse axe, but was only getting one blow, so was swapping in an extra attacks +2. And of course I forgot to swap when meleeing a Gorgimaera. And on inspecting my pack after death, found the unID'd ring I had there was FA, which (considering I was wearing SustStr and INT+3), I would have worn immediately.
