    Competition 244

New competition is up - it is an Angband 3.5.1 Dunadan Priest. The idea is we have this, then follow with a Dunadan Priest 4.2.4 competition to get a feel for the changes in the game in that time.

There's a savefile supplied, but angband.live players can start their own - birth options to change are randarts ON, birth_ai_learn ON, connected stairs OFF.

I miss id-ing consumables by use and have been doing it anyway. Anything that'll be a problem generally? Surprising amount of stuff I miss from 4.x , good work Nick.

I think Curse Weapon and Curse Armor are the big ones.

Do those still get randomly generated in 3.5.1?

It's been so long, I can't remember for sure, but weren't curses "turned off" in the 3.5.x series? I remember Nick doing a bunch of work to bring them back, in a much improved state, for 4.x.x.
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Curse Weapon/Armor scrolls are far worse than 'cursed item' mechanic - they irreversibly make a piece of equipment useless.

No, you're right, Curse Weapon and Curse Armor are not randomly generated in 3.5.1.

OK, I can't wait to get back to 4.2.4 ! Both for familiarity and game play! Keep up the good work Nick!

Quiver mechanics are sooo much better now.

I feel like slow monster is almost always effective in 4.2 and never effective (when I need it) in 3.5.1 .

I really really missed equipment comparisons.

Stream lined spell books are great!

Seeing thrown damage would have been nice in 3.5.1

I should have called out "Nick and cohorts" (including BackwardsEric I think) for a lot of the quality of life improvements in the current Vanilla version.

                  Thanks guys!

Yes, congrats to Sphara for the overall winner, and to Ingwe for a game win. Next iteration should be up in a few days.
