    +4 movement speed = +40 movement speed

    sorry, posted this question in the wrong forum.

    been playing a lot of angband 4.2.1. Currently been playing ironman. I've been playing Half-Troll Paladin because it's more powerful than Half-Troll Warrior and well suited to ironman. My current @ is at dungeon level 47 and taking his time mostly. Only +1 speed and no telepathy yet. Did find a ring of resist poison, though. Raided a lot of lesser vaults but very few had anything good, though I did just replace my long bow (+11, +16) with (+10, +26) so that's pretty good. I swap with a sling that has +4 movement speed which is moving me at about +40 speed (not sure if this is a bug or intended? Seems like a bug to me). I also just replaced my +3 DEX ring with a <+4> Ring of the mouse (0, -4).

    Should I carry around this confusion protection weapon with acid immunity that doesn't aggravate or keep the aggravating one because it does 200 more damage?

    I really don't know what to do. I definitely want to keep the 7d6 weapon. Just seems crazy to me that I find another acid immunity/confusion protection weapon so soon after finding the one with aggravation.

      Oh dear. Just how far do movement speed -items go?

      It's not a bug afaik. I found an early +3 one long time ago and it made me quit randarts. Not advocating any change here. It should probably be toned down somewhat, but as far as I play standarts, I'm fine with this.

        Well, it's good to know it's a powerful stat. I used to think it was a weak stat (ie, +1 movement speed was the same as +1 speed, except it only affected your movement). I just found an x5 crossbow with +2 movement speed (+11, +19). Now if I can find some bolts for it.

          My last mage found a randart sling with +4 movement speed, absolutely insane. You can just scoot around corners to heal and restore mana without the monster getting a move in.

            I'm gonna have to flag +4 movement speed as game breaking. If extra shots was nerfed because it was game breaking, well, we have just replaced one game breaking mechanic with another.

            That said, the Morgoth fight was still difficult and dangerous, even though I was doing more than 600 to evil. I struggled with inventory management and as a result did not stockpile any banishment scrolls and only had one mass banish for the final fight and no destruction. The battle field became extremely dangerous, to the point of being almost hopeless, but because of +4 movement speed I was always easily able to move away, but because of limited TO (6 rods) and tons of summons it was hard to get Morgoth alone (I often had to settle for short periods of relative safety among his earthquakes before the throng of dragons followed close behind). Fire and Cold immunity were pretty huge for the final fight and much of the end game.

            Gorging became an issue in the final fight and I ended up risking spell failure over quaffing *healing* because I was at 90% fed. Unlike most of my morgoth fights, ?phasing was rarely safe to do, which made all the more clutch the +4 movement speed.

            Still a fun game, but I think +4 movement speed might be too high of a cap for the stat. I'll post a video of the final fight soon!

            (PS why is movement speed in such course integers? Why isn't it a finer numerical system like normal speed?)

              Didn't play paladin in 4.2 so curious: isn't single combat spell for this situation when you have no banish/TO?
              Or is it too dangerous against Morgoth?

                In mys experience, Single Combat is good against Morgoth if you are overprepared. Basically, it makes it less likely you will make a LOS mistake that would get you killed.

                However, its not worth the risk if you have any doubts about whether you can take him.

                Also, you really want Runes of Warding scrolls. You dont have much room to dodge, and you cant phase door away if you end up stuck in a corner, so you want Morgoth to attack you as little as possible.

                  Yes Grotug could have used single combat or carried destruction to make the fight easier. A staff suffices, hoping it wont blow on the recharge.

                  For single combating Morgoth, could have swapped the ESP crown for one of serenity for the stun protection and risked the 5% fail on heal which he did anyway in the actual fight, if healing potions were low.
