    Alright. Here's a guessing game for youse all that leads into a discussion about level feelings (this seemed the best thread to revive).

    Experience potion. Took @ (Grotug's favourite half-troll killing machine) from CL 21 to CL 30 (!).

    Found on level 15 (!) Let's just say I walked over it twice, because I had to process "did I just see what I thought I just saw"

    Guess what the "level feeling" was.

    Next. Level 20. Gorbag the nastiest critter in a catacomb setting. One evil eye, few baby dragons. Flails of slay animal, beaked axe of *slay* dragon and two rapiers *Slay* troll; *slay* animal.

    Guess what the level feeling was.

      9 for the DL 15 Experience potion and between 5 and 7 for the DL20 milieu. HOWEVER - This assumes these were not monster drops as those do not count for treasure feeling. You can have a treasure feeling of 1 and still get a superb monster drop. This also is a quite a bit of a guess in the DL20 scenario, as the *Slay* weapons also come with special abilities that sometimes can be quite significant, throwing added value into the mysterious treasure feeling algorithm. The setting of a catacomb is irrelevant, in any event - and so is the monster itself, if we are considering treasure feeling here.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

        I’m going to say 8 for the !Exp and 5 for the weapons, although without knowing the enchantments or all of the abilities of the weapons it’s hard to really know.

          DL 15, Experience potion *on the floor* - 5-3.
          DL 20, various slays on the floor - 4-6.

          So, yeah, I think the "level feeling" coding is a bit wonky.

          EDIT, aaaaannd just found another EXP potion on the floor of a DL 38 , 6-2. Not gonna argue, it's helping this forced-decent troll move along nicely.

            The level feeling code is actually quite simple; here's how it works:
            1. Each object placed on a newly generated level has it's value (as in shop price) calculated (for !Exp, that's 25000);
            2. This is boosted by 20% for every level the item is out of depth (!Experience starts at level 65, so at 15 that's boosted by 50x20% to 275000);
            3. Then this value is divided by 100, and squared (giving 7562500);
            4. Then that number is divided by the depth (giving 501466);
            5. Then all these values for the level are added up, and it's checked against a table to see which feeling it is.

            Now, the bit that disturbs me is that the cut off for the 9 feeling is 160000 - so !Experience on DL15 should give a 9. If you are correct in all your details, that would indicate a bug. Are you quite sure about all the details?

              Absolutely. I may - because I am 52 and not the brightest bulb in the chandelier - be off by one or two, but it was NOT a x-9, of that I am certain.

              Sadlly, that was a crapton of levels ago, so the logs are long since gone, I am sure.

                  It's already there, unless it was removed recently.

                    It's there, but the option is "on" by default.
