Bah, you can get +2 shooting power on Bucklands too
Yeah, @ didn't find an automatic machinegun, but a semi-automatic at such a low dungeon level is still pretty great!
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Wow. Now all you need is enough strength and mana to use it. In any case, that is an unbelievable find, up there with A Plain Gold Ring in rarity, even at native depth.
and I found a similar thing today with Balance DSM (Dwarven) <+1,+2> but I didn't need it. Instead, I am amazed to have just found:
a Sling of Buckland (+18,+26) <+2,+4>
That is comparable to a Ranger with Bard, except for the unfortunate lack of Holy Might ammo. I didn't realize it was even possible to get +26 on Buckland.
Bloody hell. I've not only never found PDSM, I've never found a Sling of Buckland. In 24 years of playing. WHYYYYYYY?

How many @'s per year? How many wins? How fast do you play? How deep are you diving? Either your sample size is too small, or the RNG just hates you.

I play quite a lot, but until recently I've been fairly conservative about diving. I've never won, though I have made it all the way down a handful of times. Usually I die somewhere between DL35-45. So far my best luck has been with Dwarf Priests (not least because I can mine for gold and buy better gear in town).
I am really liking druids in the latest build. I have hopes.
@gglibertine-
Have you tried a high stealth character? I suspect they are the easiest for learning to dive. Also helps to have full monster detection in a town book. Try a high-elf rogue. The massive EXP penalty just forces you to go deep to get experience, and the class/race combo makes you tough enough to survive in tight spots in the early game. (Later in the game, intrinsic stats matter less.)
