    Memorable ego items

I saw this in a recent ladder post (no-artifact game):
Power Dragon Scale Mail (Dwarven) (-3) [60,+42] <+2,+3>

and I found a similar thing today with Balance DSM (Dwarven) <+1,+2> but I didn't need it. Instead, I am amazed to have just found:

    a Sling of Buckland (+18,+26) <+2,+4>
That is comparable to a Ranger with Bard, except for the unfortunate lack of Holy Might ammo. I didn't realize it was even possible to get +26 on Buckland.

Thats a crazy sling. I believe the damage enchantment is something like a spread around a value proportional to depth, but I am sure someone here can tell you exactly.

I once had 2 stacking dwarven PDSMs....unfortunately I cant find the dump anymore

I dimly recall that if the game passes the "okay, make an artifact" check but then fails to find an artifact it can make, then it will supercharge the bonuses on the ego-item it creates instead. Maybe that's what happened here?

EDIT: with 1d3 unenchanted iron shots and that sling, you'd be doing 112 average damage per shot, 336 average per round. If the shots were +12, then you'd be doing 480 average per round instead. If they were +12 and Slay Evil, then it'd be 600/round. That's crazy.

I was using Slay Evil Mithril shot (2d4) (+14,+12) for 820 damage/turn for a good portion of the fight. I had a stack of Rounded Pebbles and Iron shot slay evil too--both of those did over 700 damage/turn. Unfortunately, there's no Holy Might mithril shot. :/

However, with normal mithril shot (+13,+14), the damage is 572/turn, so I can't complain!

In my current game, I finally found a crossbow that actually does real damage:
          b) A Heavy Crossbow of the Nazgul (x4) (+20,+22)

What version do you play? There are clearly mithril shots of holy might in the version I play...

I have seen holy might mithril shots but they are extremly rare. On a good run, you can get 2-3 stacks of arrows or bolts, but I have never had more than 1 stack of shots, most of the time none at all.

Plus 1, here. Very rare, but when you have them and a great buckland sling, nothing compares. Morgoth is swiss cheese filled with holes and dead before he knows what happened!

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Maybe we should rename sling of bucklands to ... of Gatling?

Unfortunately not a Ranger, and not so unfortunately I already have Belthronding. But:
                      Longbow of Lothlorien (x5) (+21,+21) <+2,+4>
                      +4 to dexterity
                      +2 shooting power
Cannot be harmed by acid, fire
                      Grants telepathy. Prevents paralysis

                      Hard to beat that...

                        l) a Pair of Iron Shod Boots of Elvenkind [4,+6] <+4, +9>
Found lying on the floor of a cavern at 1500 feet (level 30)

                        +4 stealth.
                        +9 speed.
Cannot be harmed by acid, fire.
                        Feather Falling.

These replaced boots of free action, my only source at the time. I squelched FA boots and played without FA till I found a ring a few levels later.

First time for me I believe:

Power Dragon Scale Mail of Speed (-3) [60,+29] <+5>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4850 feet (level 97)

                          +5 speed.

Wow, Estie, that speed armor is a fair bit bonkers. Not too long ago I gloated about finding <+9> <+4> boots on DL 34 or 36 (with a level feeling of only 6!); you beat me with finding the same pair on DL30. I found the same sling once <+4> <+2> (+26), but I did have artifacts on, and don't think I had found all the artifacts.
