memorable Maggot drops

In all the games of Angband that I've played, Farmer Maggot has *NEVER* dropped anything really stunning. Upthread there's lot's of reports of really good luck. For me, a great Maggot drop is literally far rarer than The One Ring!
At least he doesn't drop "Helms of Beauty" anymore. Thank you, Nick! I can't tell you how many times I wanted to jump up and down and curse playing 3.5 when Maggot would drop a Helm of Beauty" even though Charisma had been removed as a stat.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

He used to be able to drop artifacts in 2.4.frog-knows. I'm not sure precisely when this changed, but I think it went well into Ben Harrison's tenure in the 2.7.*s. It was not at all rare to get the phial or maybe one of the *thancs. There were legends on r.g.r.a about One drops.Last edited by kandrc; October 16, 2015, 14:40.Comment

I was only about CL7 in my current game when Maggot dropped this:
a Flail of Westernesse (2d6) (+7,+11) <+1, +2>
Dropped by Farmer Maggot in town
+1 strength.
+1 dexterity.
+2 constitution.
Slays orcs, trolls, giants.
Prevents paralysis. Grants the ability to see invisible things.
Combat info:
1.1 blows/round.
With +6 STR and +0 DEX you would get 1.3 blows
With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 1.3 blows
Average damage/round: 47.6 vs. orcs, 47.6 vs. trolls, 47.6 vs.
giants, and 29.9 vs. others.
It served me well until I lucked into a randart drop on DL35.Last edited by troycheek; October 24, 2015, 00:18.Comment

Just got a Scimitar of *Slay Troll*, most noteworthy because I'm playing a half-troll. Good thing Mr. Maggot wasn't wielding that!Comment

Cloak, Leather Sandals, and Iron Crown +1 all have the same cash value, so Leather Gloves still win in terms of uselessness. I got this drop right at the beginning of the game, so any one of the others I could at least have worn in an otherwise empty armour slot for the added AC.Comment
