On Why the Justice Artifact is so Hard ... Sometimes you just don't have a chance to retrieve a corpse ... Stupid RNG! That was pretty cold of the RNG, as you really didn't have a chance. With the benefit of hindsight, it might have been better to lure some of those beasties away before getting the fatal blow in. Slicer had 4 corpses to go, and Benedict was one. The fight was uneventful, and Slicer won, but the Bloodcurse activated and, among other things, summoned a pack of Chaos hounds. Slicer fortunately wasn't statue-ified, so he immediately teleported away, rather than risk an errant chaos hound breath, even though Benedict's corpse was just in the next square over. Better safe than sorry. On 24.11.2005 04:38 roblt97@hotmail.com wrote: Yes, getting the Amberite corpses is a serious challenge. It took me three characters failing to obtain an Amberite corpse before I decided to make killing them a special event. Even if it's against your strategy, you've got to let a wounded Amberite flee (or teleport yourself away) if there's anything nearby to complicate corpse retrieval. The only thing harder is getting Qlzq...'s corpse. On 24.11.2005 04:54 Elliott946@aol.com wrote: I think Qlzz's corpse is the one whose difficulty is the most terrain dependent. If he's in a reasonably confined space and you can get close to him before getting into his "summoning LOS" or have dimension door or the like, well, I won't say he's trivial, but he's a whole lot less difficult than any of the Ambers, except maybe Rinaldo, because unlike the other Q's, he's all offense and no defense. On the other hand, if he's sitting in the middle of a big room and you have no way of closing the distance quickly and lack exceptional ranged attack abilities, don't even bother because he'll kill you. On 24.11.2005 05:01 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote: Ummm ... The Beasties were actually summoned by the Curse. I had 0% chance of recovering that corpse ;-) This has actually happened to me several times. TY_CURSE on killing wanted amberite summons monster that destroys corpse on the same round. Doh!! Its pretty rare, though. Usually it is my own stupidity that prevents retrieval of the ?oArtifactCreation, but this time I can honestly say that it was not my fault! And I do agree on the Q's ... wait for a decent antisummoning setup, or don't even bother. On 24.11.2005 05:56 Elliott946@aol.com wrote: Ah, I wasn't sure from the messages if they were summoned by the curse or not. That's just terrible luck. On 24.11.2005 05:59 rolbt97@hotmail.com wrote: Yeah, that's what I meant by picking my battleground. I assume the Bloodcurse will summon, so I treat the Amberites like Qs--tight quarters. If only 3 or 4 monsters end up with LoS to me, I can read mass geno, grab the body, whatever. But there's always the "bad freakin' luck curse," like you say. On 24.11.2005 06:20 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote: Well, I guess I was not completely diligent about luring Rinaldo into an ASC ... he died in like two turns! I suppose if I had, then I could have retrieved the corpse despite the Summon of the Demogorgon and the Stone to Mud. I had him against the wall, and it was just me vs. him on the fight, but there was open space behind me. But how often do Great Unclean Ones revive corpses? I've never seen that one before ... Its like the RNG had it in for me ;-) My revenge was to find a ?oArtifact Creation in the dungeon! The RNG retaliated with a worthless set of attributes on my newly artifacted BDSM. It is a tug of war battle we have going here ... I *will* win :) On 24.11.2005 16:10 roblt97@hotmail.com wrote: Lol! You sure showed the RNG! :) Seen 1571 times. |
