Shooting babble in a barrel It turns out the Poison Needle didn't insta-kill it, so I had to get 6 solid whacks on it. Fortunately for me though, the AI of the Babble is that, if it notices the player is next to it, it ALWAYS tries to blink, rather than stand and deliver (it could certainly have killed me if it continually breathed Logrus on me). Yes, babbles only have 3d2 hp, but they are still arguably the most dangerous non-unique in the game (I'd bet on one over a GWoP, especially in an arena-type battle, though the fight would take a LONG time). Look 'em up on the spoiler. Check out that AC and speed, remember that they are IMMUNE to all magic and elemental attacks, and then try to figure out how to kill it. Also, for "strongest of the non-unqiues," my money is on the Zombified Serpent of Chaos ^^ gpfury: The babble has basically 4 attacks... Fireball, Mana Bolt, Logrus Breath and Psycho Spear. The first two can be negated if you have ImmFire and Reflection. The latter two are very dangerous, doing 200+ even with RChaos. That, combined wth the Babble's +60 speed and Heng's random timing system means that you really cannot afford to ever let your HP drop below 450 or so. For melee and arrow attacks, there is always a 5% chance of hitting. Unfortunately, with the 10,000 AC of the Babble, even if you successfully hit, the damage often gets reduced to zero. This practically means you need to Crit in order to do damage. This, however, has an exception in the Poison Needle (which, I would argue, is a bug)--The poison needle is a weapon that normally either Insta-kills a (non-unique) monster, or does 1 damage. I don't think this 1 damage is subject to damage reduction from AC, so that actually makes the Poison Needle THE best weapon available against the Babble, since it's the only one that can do consistent damage. It does NOT do a guaranteed 1 Damage on the Babble, though it seems to on everything else. I guess Nature is still the best way to defeat the Babble. Seen 1528 times. |
