one hazard of companions I took this screenshot intending to show how useful Lay of Protection was, but (a minute later) there's a better reason. The brown 'B' northeast of me is a companion leveled Brown Firebird which I hatched out in Angband. As soon as I got to this DL (a revisit -- I've already beaten the Crypt) I saw all the Qs and immediately cast Lay of Protection to stop them from summoning on me. All well and good, but what I forgot was that they would summon on my *companion* as well! As soon as I realized the problem, I dismissed the Firebird, but now (not shown in this screenshot) I've got six assorted liches plus Khamul (a Ringwraith) to deal with, as well, all clustered in the area where you see the Firebird now. Fortunately I'm still well protected and this situation shouldn't be a problem, but I'm still kicking myself. Yeesh...
