I managed to get him to Anf58 on schedule, and much better equipped to progress than Sprinter #1. I'd spent the previous day between Anf 46/48, and had good luck with stat potions, although the main luck was finding Orome. This was my walk-wield weapon almost to the end of the game, for the +4 speed, and the fact that it was the only useable source of SI I found until Dor-Lomin turned up just before the final fight. What stopped me taking on Angband in time to threaten evariste was what I perceived as a lack of useable confusion resist - I considered Mablung's telepathy too important to consider using Vinyamar. This was a (big) mistake; I should have been willing to take on Angband while juggling RConf and tele - especially when Belron turned up a few moves later (this was the weapon used to kill Morgie: 3d8, slay evil, brand acid and fire). Diving Angband at 85k moves, CLvl30, would have at least given him a shot at challenging evariste. When he finally acquired an outfit considered suitable to dive Angband, the opportunity was gone. Frustrations: never found the 5th spell book; never found pots of ResMana or Life; never found ?Banish or ?MassBanish. Finally gave up on magic, and took on Morgie as a pure warrior. I used the 47 pts of mana in the final fight exclusively to cast door creation. The tactics were fight, blink, door create, heal - Morgie never summoned once. Manaburn was a great help in the fight, as he used many of his turns "gathering his power". Resources used: 2 !Beserk, 2 !Hero, 3 !Speed, 6 !Heal, 4 !*Heal*.

The boots of elvenkind +5 were the only speed boots found the whole game. Who dropped them: Brodda! - on dlvl 91.

Healing wasn’t a problem in this game, as my first recall from Anf58, laden with treasure, found 16 !Heal in the BM. Only found 5 in the dungeon, and got another 3 from the merchant. Consecutive dragon pits (Multihued (no wyrms) and Blue (mostly wyrms)) provided most of the !*Heal*. Used the 4d8 kill dragon sword. Funnily enough, the former pit probably dropped better items than the latter.

Some thoughts on sets. At first glance, the power-up of the set items looks great, I used Hithlomir/Cammithrin for most of the game (speed, and the dex was very helpful for an ent). The problem is that home inventory management is *much* harder. Many arts that previously would get kept or used for a while, then sold when superseded by a clearly better art, are now potentially "keep" items. I'm inclined to think its time to make the home a bit bigger. In particular, forcing players to sell set items before they even find out what the set can do seems unfair. At the least, info on the complete set should be provided when looking at a set item – players shouldn’t need to go to the spoilers.
