Ok, decent start, with good (though not spectacular) ego helm and boots. My big find was Raal's :P

Been using Powerdiver's suggestion to buy out slots of the alchemist's shop (thx Powerdiver for the tip!), waiting for those ?oMM. Still, been having a hard enough time that I am not that sad that I am slowed down in the 30's.

Demons are so tasty... Also got Barukkuhed up to 3 attacks, so have middling damage now. Can take out vanilla ancient dragons now, which is always fun. And demons, even tastier than in O!

Lucky the Pooh

"Hallo Pooh. How's things?" asked the Sabre-Toothed Tigger.

"Terrible and Sad. It all comes from exploding staves." said Pooh-Dwarf.

"How so?" asked Tigger.

"I was looking to get a lick of XP from Piglet's vault in level 62, when a tried to recharge my staff of speed. It exploded, and everything went pear-shaped. Former agreeable pots of XP like Greater Basilisks became, well, less agreeable as their sting became harder to ignore."

"I cannot help but notice that you have another such staff now" remarked Tigger.

"Well, it was not after some time. I had intended to push downward (to say level 75), but I was distracted by another vault in level 69. It was horrible. After a considerable effort, I had the terrible problem of not being able to carry all the *special* items that I found".

"That doesn't sound horrible at all! And what about that =oSpeed!"

"Well, now I have so many choices to make, that it makes my mind go squishy" replied Pooh, who then eyed Tigger queerly. "You aren't using your xp have you? I could use another mouthful, if you don't mind..."

So, while clearing out a vault on level 98, I found my third source of aggravation (for those taking notes, hammerhand, weapon of fury, and the Umbar), and it struck me that Lucky was one annoying git.

So, in that spirit--

H3y |\/|0rg07h, im in ur dvnj0n, ki11ing ur d00d5

Feagwath-- pwned on level 99, for kicks
Witch-King-- pwned
Maeglin-- pwned early, made him cry
Pazuzu-- pwned, fast bastard
Draugluin-- pwned lol
Cantoras-- pwned on 98
Ancalagon-- ran like a sissy dwarf
Lungorthin-- fought a bit, learned the error of my ways
Carcharoth-- pwned
Huan-- pwned
Vecna-- pwned
Gothmog-- summoned by Vecna, then pwned for a two unique easer
Saruon-- pwned

Morgoth-- after great effort, pwned.

And Cubragol, as always, gets dropped by Morgoth... 'course, can't complain when an ancient dragon decides to drop at +14 speed ring (I think, didn't id it) just before the final battle, on level 100.

And, cuz Lucky is just that aggravating

Sauron-- I'm annoyed!
Morgoth-- I'm annoyed!
Both-- We're a pair-a-noid!

Oh Thorin, where art thou?

Thanks all, this was fun, I haven't played V in quite a while, and this is my first win with a warrior in V (although I can't really count it personally, the PDSM sort of lowers the degree of difficulty :)

Bandobras-- this was the second character I thought worth posting. I killed off six characters besides the original lucky-- only two of them got past the first recall, and all of them bit it before reaching DL 30. I thought those were not worth posting. There were probably also about a half dozen I quit from, for things like getting Str drained to 18 and no !oRS in town, or taking too long to get to level 5 (started the game w/o door detection, and got annoyed by those games where I had to search the entire level multiple times for stairs down.

Starstealer, NeoWizard-- winning at this speed is to a fair bit a mindset thing. As Evariste and Powerdiver shows, there is room for even tighter powerdiving. I remember my original wins were much slower--my first win took over 2000000 turns, and I made it a point to kill every unique. Have you read Eddie Grove's posts on diving? That's what inspired me. Essentially, if you learn the methods of survival (and one of the methods is psychological, you'll progress so fast that the occasional death won't be a huge blow, but merely a piece of negative feedback to learn from), you'll find that it is better to rely on your skills than to artificially lowering the dungeon difficulty by holding back-- the dungeon will provide what you need to survive it at the depths.

Well - my comment is based on a couple of things:

a) I have never won any version of *band
b) I rarely play warriors

I am now quite comfortable with diving (just started doing it last month really) - and I find I am much better about getting away from sticky situations in general. I still consider this an unreachable bar because I haven't yet gotten there. Everything is impossible until I do it :)
