Thicklimb found the HA whip very early which has seen him through to where he is now. He has just found a nice powerful crossbow which would average at about 40 dam/shot if he could hit anything (whatever happened to the deadliness rating for shooting in the dump?)

At this level archery became quite potent. With a x5 crossbow and 2d7 ammo, I could do 70+ dam per shot when fully buffed. Mim fell easily (especially as I was +16 speed when hasted).

My changes mean that archery is now a viable option as a low-level ranger and for other classes once you can get your skill high enough. Last point... and maybe the most important though... crossbows. Changing the ammo dice has widened the gap between shots, arrows and bolts. If you are only going to get one shot regardless of your ammo choice - a crossbow is going to give you much better results. I'd never have considered carrying a 20lb crossbow before, but all of a sudden it really helps...

I think the best thing will be when someone else gets to play with it and can give a better judgement as to whether it actually plays better now! I doubt that this will be the final 'cut' of the solution to the archery problem, but I think it is a positive start.
