I have killed a multitude of characters over the last month and have not bothered to post them in disgust.

Finally decided to fire up the first type of character I tried in Heng/Entro - and made a concsious decision to post him early to try to keep him alive.

So a Ninja it is. The last Ninja I played was pretty successful and I can see how their powers make them able to finish the game and interesting to play as they are balanced by their restrictions in eq. This time however decided that a Barbarian might be a good choice to provide and edge in combat with Berserking and also a cheap source of renewable healing. I don't know why I didn't think of this before.

So far so good.

He's had access to a fair ammount of cash courtesy of the two first Quest Monsters (Lousy and Ufthak) providing some excellent items for sale. This allowed him to purchase the Robe of Permanence at Chlvl 21 which is a real boon for Midnight at the moment. (He might even carry it as a swap when required even when/if he gets something really nice like Shiva's Jacket).

After the first two random quests he pretty much blew through the mid level quests untouched but didn't really pick up anything he could use apart from the Dagger of Slay Human from Tengu Quest which really isn't that good.

Not dual-wielding yet as Dagger skill needs to be higher. Anticipating starting to train this @chlvl 28 or so.

Not going after Sting yet either as am still to find a light source or Cap of Darkness.

I should mention that Midnight had a very lucky escape at Chlvl 19 when he bumped in to a Cloaker on Angband 16 prior to having FA covered. He missed him and Midnight backed up and spiked him to death.

Actually he had two lucky escapes as I forgot he didn't FA covered when he went in to the Mimic Quest and I employed my usual tactics of buffing (Speed + Heroism + Pot of Res Cold) then teleport till I land next to mimics. He duly landed in one of the middle rooms smack bang between the Chest Mimic and the 3 door mimcs and they all missed him when I remembered much to my horror he could've been paralyzed. I phased door out then positioned myself in view of one room at a time and spiked them without too many problems (they summoned Hobbes but that really wasn't an issue). No items of note but plenty of cash items.

Will probably start diving in Angband now down to @lvl 37 and scum for equipment + build up dual wield.

Latest update:

Chlvl 32 and Cloning pits + Vault completed.

Entered Cloning Pits at Chlvl 30 as I figured Midnight was up to it and his dual wielding was decent.

No major problems apart from Boty Belding giving him a bit of a scare when I mistook him for an escaping Fasolt. No res shards so had to employ Kwarimi to whittle him down over 5 or 6 attempts. Ended up berserking the last rwo times to take him down effectively. The only other issue was an annoying It who escaped at the start of the Quest (I like to get rid of them first followed by Gachpapins and Jurts) and I didn't find It again until the very end and several Hydras later.

Items of Note:

Arvedui
Leather Cap of Darkness (yes - can get Sting now).
Randart Cloak Bullsey - handy because it has Res Blind/Confusion and also gives +3 to Con + other abilities.
Eowyn
+ Several other Ego Items which ammounted to about 300K cash.

Since he picked up source of Darkness he went to Vault at Chlvl 32 and cleared that out easily. Toughest monster there was Lord Borel who didn't pose a real threat for Midnight even after he summoned once. Bolg was there as well but he's always a joke.

Now possess Sting as well as Boots of Shiva's avatar. Gone back to single wielding as want to build up proficiencly with Sting. Will scum Alchemy shop for Scrolls of +Dam and +to Hit to get Sting up to +10,+10 and then the Haunted House Quest will be next followd by some diving in the Dragon's Lair for some better items. This should be aided by the fact that the Amulet of the Magi Midnight picked up in the Pits has Dragon Telepathy...

oh - forgot to mention that @Chlvl 28 Midnight quaffed a potion of Self Knowledge and found the following:

Obviously the only annoying thing there is the Str score but it may not be an issue due to Midnights +4 bonus for Race and Personality. It means he needs to find 11pts from equipment which should be doable.

Forgot to mention that the Cloning Pits and Vault were made immeasurably easier due to Smaug (Random Quest Monster for Ang 38) dropping a Ring of Accuracy and Speed (+3,+0) (+5). He dropped a bunch of other stuff which made Midnight quite rich but the ring was the real treasure.
