Had fun encounters with a mature red dragon pit, a graveyard vault of sorts and a sadistic smallish vault filled enirely with hounds.

Acquirement granted me Arvedui, which saved me from the 100 some odd nexus hounds I've encountered.

Grar!!! has a solid defense with all but disen, neth, lit, dark and hlife covered. Acid res. doubled and Fire res. tripled.

Ulionari is a fire brand/dragon slayer which buffs and sustains Con and gives fire resist while Aineyath is granting +2 wisdom.

The only thing not *id'*' is Cambeleg, and I know it has fa and boosts str and con.

On a funny note, four out of the first five artifacts/randarts I found were well-balanced daggers... :)

Had a tearjerking family reunion fight with Grar!!!'s pappy, Grar!! the vampire.

Holhenneth and Thranduil are both teasing me, but I need to keep the serenity helm for confusion resist. Pretty sure neither has confusion resist, so waiting for *id* or mushroom or potion of confusion to find out for sure.

All resists covered except nether, disenchantment and hold life. Only acid is doubled now.

Changed the Axe for the HA Glaive. My math is iffy on which was better, but the freeing up of a ring slot from the lame see invisible made it worth it to me.

Burning through healing potions left and right... I'm glad they haven't been scarce.

Hellhounds are particularly nasty, especially when they show up out of nowhere to demolish a large chest some thoughtful Gavernian Huntslady dropped for me.

Got fire, elec and acid to 70% resist, but can wear the resist shield to buff to 75% for those and 60% for cold if I come across white dragons or some suchness.

Killed my first Ancient Dragon, a Black.

My inventory feels clunky... it's a good thing I can ditch about half of it if I need to.

Currently on 2350' with a 'special' feeling, about my 12th special level or so. Last time it was because of a crystal/balance/law/chaos dragon pit with a couple of Death Drakes hanging around for good measure. I managed to kill all the dragons, but depleted almost all my healing potions for ultimately no useful drops. I wonder what is triggering it this time. About 33% of the time there is an artifact on the ground, 33% some difficult monster pit, 33% some kind of vault. Naturally, since I mentioned healing potions weren't scarce I'm running out and can't seem to find any and BM hasn't restocked anything useful in a while.

Grar!!! will be back in action next week for another exciting episode of alphabet soup: who ate my ascii?!

I prefer Entros implementation of preserve off, and only deactivate it there. You only get special if there is a (true) artefact on the level in Entro...

Yeah, that would be handy right about now.

Special feeling was because Himring was on the level.

2500' was very fun, another special level because of a vault I've seen a few times before. I cleaned out about 6 ancient dragons of varying type, the Balrog of Moria, Lorgan, Erotars, Ar-Pharazon and Shelob.

I can now flip between between Thranduil and Holhenneth for esp or activate since Rohirrim gives confusion resist. I added a hole in resists though... shards.

Chose fury for last specialty because I was about to take on the Balrog of Moria immediately followed by a Balor at the time. My speed went from +10 to +18 during the fight. A definite edge.

Indomitable is a cooler version of Holhenneth sporting resist fire, acid and cold plus a faster detection charge time (30 + d30) with see invisible and resist blindness. The +3 is for searching and charisma.

A nice one for a warrior.

Do you feel a need for any distance attacks?

On 23.5.2006 14:46 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote:
The short answer is not really, but... :)

I use Amras to take out Quylthugs mostly, the occasional fleeing monster or life-drainer and it's handy to wake a monster up with the first shot and use the 2nd shot's time to move into a corridor or something like that. I would say less than a tenth of a percent of my kills are with ranged attacks.

Gonna look over this jumble of equipment tomorrow and maybe find some interesting kits. Knocked out 3 dragon pits and around 50 or so Greater Wyrms. I love my new sword, a 1d14 firebrand/evil slayer with 6 attacks a round which also gives nether and darkness resist plus speeds regeneration.

On 24.5.2006 18:16 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote:
A very exciting fight with The Defiler. He is rated below Saruman but gave me much more trouble. He bored through one of the exits of a medium sized vault and brought with him an Ancient Ice Wyrm, a Patriarch and a Dread. I should have teleported or phase doored, or teleported away The Defiler... but instead hasted myself and took them all on. I would attack and then drink a healing potion. I burned through 10 to take them all out with my h.p. dropping to 350 - 450 four or five times. Fury kicked in and really saved my bacon. The reward was quite nice... a randart (I think) helm Froma that buffs dexterity by 3, resists electricity, frost, sounds and shards and confusion. Inside the vault was the Torque of Boromir and Celegorm. Finally a chance to rearrange my equipment and make Crisdurian a viable option as a weapon with five attacks a round at triple damage with lucrative slays to boot. Only holes now are disenchantment and hold life. It did cost me some stuff: about 50 points from max h.p., my free quick charging detection, acid fell to 60% and lost the combat ring to a ring of resist nether.

All in all Grar!!! is feeling pretty smug, but he could definitely use some permanent speed and more healing potions.

On 25.5.2006 17:39 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote:
Found Calris and dumped my stockpile of 44 enchant skill scrolls on it to get it to +1 and also uncursed it. I now have all the resists covered except for hold life, which I'm not too worried about since I'm almost level 50 and making my saving throw most of the time anyway.

Gone back to my 'Crisdurian' setup after being dissapointed with Calris's results. I've always liked Crisdurian better anyways. I cleared 3500' with an interesting setup using my 1d14 short sword wearing Caspanion, ditching Barahir and using ring of combat and ring of skill to boost my skill to +65. I did a good amount of damage and I would still be using the setup but for one reason: I have to wear the Star for see invisible and it drives me crazy not having activation for light. I suppose I could find a rod of illumination but it just wouldn't be the same! Shift+a f is engraved in my muscle memory. Heh.

Ah, the madness!

I found a medium sized vault with Carcharoth, Glaurung and Ancalagon among other baddies. I lured Carcharoth out and sliced him to one star 3 different times but couldn't get in that killing blow before he would run away. Glaurung decided to join in by summoning Ancient Dragons of varying type which I teleported away. Then I was fighting Glaurung, he got down to one star and then he ran away. So, I get to chasing the both of them and get surrounded by their summons: hounds and more ancient dragons. So I phase door. I'm about out of healing potions and more importantly, no more stone to mud to make safe corridors but I just don't care anymore... I make a suicide run after Carcharoth but get him to one star again and get killed by one of Glaurungs summons. I know I should have done a million other things but in the heat of the moment I was having so much fun being reckless. I guess at best I was role-playing my fury specialty... hee hee. Oh wellers, I'm gonna give Oangband a break and I'm wanting to get in on the new FA version.

On 30.5.2006 17:48 mat wrote:
damn, that sucks, you were looking really great (apart from not using macroes *haha*).
About the running away: Bosses never seem to run away long enough to regain serious health so as a warrior, never follow a running away boss. Arrow him if you still have LOS after he started running away. Not that you should have LOS as you don't want to be in the open. Anyway stay where you are, as the boss will always return shortly after, without having regained more than a star.

Why, this guy is even harder than High Elves! I really don't know hot to get him going without stair-scumming. A least ESP shows the hounds... Perhaps at night that could be possible but the stealth is a problem...

Heh. From my experience the races that start in the deadlier wilderness areas don't have much choice but to hang around the home-town for a bit, or maybe a little more. I admit I don't have much talent at anything other than bashing the keys and stockpiling hordes of equipment to bail me out of embarrasing situations, so perhaps there is another way. I was just thinking that you seem to be real thoughtful when you play... the telepathy combined with all the cool stuff Assasins do would make your character able to collect tons of information. I need the esp because I'm rather fatiqued after unsuccessfully slogging through Oanband three times and need the game to do some of the work for me. :)
