After Delver returns to Hobbiton with the jewels of the Rivendell elves in his sack, he'll get some respect. For now, a cordial visit to the Farmer Maggot's farm is needed to overcome his equipment deficiencies. His father used to say such friendly visits turn out truly peaceful and dignified when you pay them some time after midnight, when the friends and their dogs are asleep. However, one night, when father was on one such visit to the Farm, there was a huge grassland fire and father was never heard of again. Moreover, mages --- Delver is Mage, mind you --- need light to read their spells (or their single spell, as it happens, e.g., Magic Missile). Let's go now, then...

There is also a door in the ground leading to some nice smelling cellars. Fresh air flows through the doorway, so there must another exit. Interesting, what might be further inside the storerooms and whom I may meet on the other end. The loot in the backpack is already quite heavy. I have real truble hauling it. Being a burgl^H^H^H^H^Hmage is a really exhausting way of earning your living. But hard work pays a lot, my Daddy always said.
Unfortunately, the weighty food slows me down and I cannot drop it even temporarily, because it rots on the cellar floor and disappears instantly --- some theft protection by Farmer Maggot, apparently. People are so distrustful these days...

"All it takes is patience and oil", as Father used to say. However, next time I will visit the farm at night, when the dogs are asleep. Now, time to get to the exit of the cellars. Whom may I meet there?
On 2.5.2006 16:38 Bandobras wrote: Agent of the Nazgul? What name is this? I remember Bucklanders had a weed named somewhat similar to this. But an agent of the tobacco farmers? It doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I was slowed -1 due to the loot (though I dropped some nearby on the level) and he got a double move on me when he first came into view. He slowed me then. I oiled him and kept throwing flasks into the smoke, but the bottles did not explode! So he was not harmed any more and the smoke area was not enlarged. He got to me and killed me with one blow. :<

How is one supposed to go save Middle Earth without flasks of oil?
On 2.5.2006 17:31 Bandobras wrote: Oh, never mind. That one died as well, to failed Magic Missile, when standing next to Fang, and then failed Phase Door (he should have read the scroll). With oil that would be different...
On 2.5.2006 17:48 Bandobras wrote: Next one has no Phase, no lantern, but enough oil. ;)

On 3.5.2006 01:26 Bandobras wrote: After some source-diving I come to the conclusion that initial stats are much more important in Un than in V. Therefore autorolling is much better than point-based. So I autorolled a perfect character (max INT, CON and STR, etc.) and started playing.
At once a hobbit veteran tried to kill me without a reason. As I said
the character is not very liked in Hobbiton...
Upon entering DL2 (I was CL1) I say Fang and Grip 2 steps from me. Lesson 1: never scum for optimal stats, RNG does not like it. We were not in a room, but a closest room was too far away, so I oiled them in a corridor, anyway. First hit, Fang fled, two more flasks missed (and didn't go all the way, but dropped intact where Grip stood --- they should have exploded or hit fleeing Fand farther away, or all of the above with some probabilities). MM finished Grip. CL2. Then Fang returned. MM. CL3. Ufff...
Several levels later the first thing Dunlending did was stinking cloud me. I tried the Torch Flame spell, but it went in a completely different direction than where targetted, so I was choked with smoke the same turn I cast it. Is it intentional or a bug? Dunlending picked up some of the loot I dropped to speed me up. Then, it seems, he destroyed some of it, because not all were among his drop. Is it intentional? At this moment I reloaded, without checking his drop, to the moment just after he stinking clouded me, and I avoided Torch Flame and leading him to a room over my dropped items.
After getting to the surfact I got "There are -10 hours until midnight." ;)
I purchased Detect Magic service and here is what I got. The armour and darts are from Dunlending. The darts where marked by detect magic as {very good}, but all they have is "balanced" flag. The armour is just good, only AC pluses. After identifying, everything in my backpack turns out to be utter crap. I guess I will better become a farmer. :<
On 3.5.2006 01:36 Bandobras wrote: Now I see the rule with Torch Flame is that if I enter direction using number keys it goes as required, but if I target using * and then order the spell to follow target (5 or Enter) it goes in a random direction.
