But Unlight skill is great, and I have lots of other stealth, too. Borderline Legendary stealth.

And weapon brands are wonderful in this game, even if damage bonuses are so lousy otherwise.

1. Stand on up stairs on themed level, and enter '<'; message 'This level will never appear again. Really leave? (y/n)' appears.
2. Enter one of the stand still commands - '5' or ','. The 'This level...' message is still displayed (although the cursor has disappeared). This effectively cancels the '<' command, just like hitting escape would; the game is now ready to take another command.
3. Enter stand still again. This now counts as standing still, and things can hit you.
The simplest thing for me would be if you had somehow done this accidentally :)
If I hit 'y', I just go up the stairs; if I hit anything else, I get the behaviour as in step 2, and then we're back to a pre-'<' state.

Sorry none of this is very helpful. If I have missed some obscure interaction with themed levels, it is unfortunately the sort of thing where you could play for years and never come across it.

Maybe you can start a rogue now :)

Thanks nick. Anyway, that was a really disappointing death. This game is highly dependent on getting a multi-dice ego weapon (with usable slays or brand), so getting that flail, not to mention +6 STL and great rings early meant a potentially massive game.
It's the first time I was ever actually able to play with my usual game-play style. (Dive fast, look for easy targets, run away a lot. With a lousy dagger, there are no easy targets, so everything becomes a battle of attrition.)
