It's really hard to kill anything undead/demon with Nether and Life Draining attacks, a combo of Malediction, Cloud kill and the rest seems to still do the job though, then again, i don't have much to look forward too, vampiric drain .. vampirism true, those will be good for dragon pits at least, but i ll need the third book for that (also for haste spell).
Gear wise i can't complain, randard stealth cloak, with res conf, and an armor of resistance with res conf as well, all from a chest courtesy of green glutton ghost

i failed a whole lot of quests, due to my inexperience with killing undead with death mage.. doom quest 1 was a "bitch" only cloud kill was effective against arch viles, and i ran in there weak from hunger thinking i could drain demons for sustenance .. well wrong again .. in the end snatched most items and made it out alive with 11 HP but failed the quest, same with sewer, once i was finally done with undead mass gremlins were totally out of control, i just took too long and every other breeder was awake by then, just had to get out...
Kharis the Powerslave failed as well, SANITY blasted by a ghast, turned me into a hallucinating moron for a good 300+ turns, i barely managed to leave the level, my wisdom is really lacking, definitely need a better saving throw (although superb doesnt sound bad for this level, maybe i got unlucky)

i guess i ll try to get to 30 somehow and get my hand on sting, then i might just try to melee my way to stronger spells

using dual wield, to get res dis/chaos from a chaotic axe, so melee is out of the question at the moment...

BUT managed to hit 30 by scumming around in dragon pits and killing young/mature dragons, which got me vampiric drain, very potent against dragon and the living creatures and curing me ...

and then .. i killed a Ancient Green Dragon .. and omg it dropped a ring of speed +10 OF HASTE .. i didnt even know it existed lol, very happy now, prolly will die a horrible death very soon, HP is low still, i need to get more CON somehow, and AC is too low as well, still my future looks bright .. i hope, would love finding book #3 (found chaos channels of course)

Whenever I play Death casters (Priest, Mage), I found that it helps a lot to have a dragon/wyrm pet that you can drain off of. In the end-game, it's always GWoManyColors, but around this level, you can start looking into toting around AMHD. That will also solve your food/hunger problem.

Also, since you don't have access to double-resists, I'd recommend carrying around at least 3 of each of the early books... Archviles and other things will fry your sources of spells quickly otherwise.

Do remember that you have Eat Magic, and start stockpiling higher rods (even Disarming will give you a good 30SP or so).

Finally, my personal opinion is that you don't need RChaos or RDisenchant yet, and that having some melee ability is always good. Your choice though.

anyway lost the great axe of eonwe, cloak of jack of shadows (/cry) and cambeleg

managed to find thranduil tho, which now capped my INT and telepathy is of course aweseome to have

finished the vault quest, just grabbed sting and left...

thanks for your advice, about the int amulet i tried to find one, but all the 10 or so i found were cursed :P pretty bad luck i guess, right now i am using con ring and sting in offhand for the extra CON, still only 337 health, its not enough to survive a max breath without double resist

great idea about the dragon pet, i ll remember that heh, and yea since i have vampiric drain, i never dropped below "Full" yet
