Giving the Sexy personality a go. Its very annoying without detect monsters as worms and lice seem to infest every level. This character is poised for a very high kill count indeed.

Yet the Sewer was completed, and that took a potion of speed to do (Teleport for the Blue Ickies and then haste was my initial move ... I think I got that from Dave). I don't think the Mimic's or Orcs quests will be too hard, but the Cloning Pits and Old Castle will be much harder! I will need to be quite powerful indeed before attempting those.

But my stats are quite good, and I can wield things like the Harness of Hell (my Old Castle reward, btw) and Stormbringer with no penalties.

Dave, any additional advice on this play style? This is the farthest I've been with the Sexy personality ...

Glad to see someone else trying Sexy!

Not too much of note--you have most of the gaming basics down anyway. One feature of Sexy (well, with any Aggravation in general) is detection range pulling. This works well if you have some from of ESP or Detect Monsters, and you can manage to make the monsters come to you one at a time.

Hell Collar's been improved in either 1.7.0 or Entroband, because it's no longer -2 Speed! Good stuff.

I'd wait a little before doing Old Man Willow, that tends to be a bit nasty with all the Sabre-tooth Tigers and Sasquatchs charging you.. Definitely need 80+ AC for that quest.

Maybe carrying around a few more ?oTeleport, and Staff of Detect Evil as soon as money is no longer tight.

Hanging out at 1000' or so, waiting for resistance armour. The orc quest nearly killed me ... geez. All those orcs mobbing me right off the bat sent a shiver of caution down my spine.

Now I just picked up that Pattern Weapon ... very nice.

And Elliott, I just found a 3rd level spell book that was Crusade rather than Death ... hmm, the RNG is in a mood today.

(CL27:DL30 Mine)
Wow, this has been one tough level. Pack of Nexus hounds with no Nexus resistance. It. Swarm of q's. Maybe 200+ monsters so far on a single grid level!

But 'It' dropped Caspanion and an Ice Troll just dropped Jack of Shadows! Now Telepathy is probably more important than double resistance at the moment ...

Do not do the mine as a Sexy character without a Staff of Speed!!

Hmmm... One more trip to the mine. 1x1 level as usual.

Start Kill count = 4392
End Kill count = 4822
Kills = 430 ... on a 1x1 level!

I finally had to flee Red Helm and his entourage of Disenchanter Beasts. Too bad as there were some Granite Walls I would have enjoyed killing.

(CL30:DL33 Castle)
First trip down to DL33 in the Castle and Ishikawa is immediately spotted. He had his sharp katana as well! Perhaps he was distracted by this character's sexiness?

Ordinarily, I would consider this character up for the Cloning Pits as is.

[1] 370hp/round with Zantetsuken, though a swap is needed for the Queens.
[2] Resistance with Poison and Chaos as well.
[3] 32 charges of speed from staves.
[4] Plenty of healing and resistance.
[5] Perhaps hp a bit low, but 439 is not that bad.
[6] Levitation.

However, with aggravate I don't dare. I want 600+hp and a decent artifact swap weapon before even considering it. Having everything awake is a huge liability ...

Well, that was a bit ambitious. Speed was the problem, though I did have enough after all. Went in with 32 charges and 9 potions. Out with 6 charges and 6 potions so 29 hastes were required. Even the Ultimate Dungeon Cleaners could not be killed at base speed without considerable risk. Grendels nearly killed me early on (10hp!) so my AC was a bit too low as well. In at CL31. With the help of 398 freaking fire ants, out at CL32. Thats about 6-7x the normal number of fire ants for me.

Its and Gachapins combined for only one artifact, the Slay Mold crossbow. Not too bad, but this was definitely the worst Cloning Pits take ever. Next best item: A ninjato of *slay* undead. Yeduson from some trivial monster like Dagon, I think. Not tough randoms, so I think I lucked out. Patience next time!

Of course I'll take the boots :)

Greater Hell Magic Mushroom Were-Quylthulg drops Cambeleg! WoooHooo! Now I don't feel as bad about discarding my ring of damage +15 for nether resistance and hold life ...

Also, right after the Cloning Pits I bought this telepathy helm for 130,000gp ... so Colluin gets the start over and above Jack of Shadows. Double resistance is very useful!

On 16.12.2005 10:43 dzhang@its.caltech.edu wrote:
Indeed! That's one of the reasons I never get around to finishing Paladins or Chaos-Warriors, the lack of reliable double Resistance (Colluin doesn't show up too often for me). Congrats!

An early Stormbringer brings early joy. Allows me to swap my ring of nether resistance for speed +4. Vampirism is very nice! And aggravate? What aggravate?

Greater Checkerboard vault on DL45 with 13 artifacts inside, and monsters as powerful as the Emperor Quylthulg! Holy Shit!!

Sold out for Diatribe, which was in the freaking middle! First Metal Cap on the end was a ruse, being Infravision.

Details to follow as soon as my hands stop shaking!

Wow!

OK, I think I calmed down enough to actually write :)

So I get the Special feeling, and I think, no big deal. My worst fear is an early checkerboard vault loaded with high end artifacts. I had found 18 artifacts so far, and I figured there might be something decent just laying on the ground just like the last 4 special feelings.

So I fight my way over to the right side of the dungeon and Iketa the Brave comes into my field of detection. Monsters every other square, but a winding checker board. Perhaps its the lesser one without excellent items, and I might just miss one artifact. Nope, there is a Spectral Wyrm, and there is Biketal of Fire, and there is Ungoliant the Unlight, and there is Julian, and the Defiler, and Angalagon, and a Warp Demon and Glaurung and Bleys and the Emperor Quylthulg, and many more I just can't recall at the moment. Tough monsters on the end of the vault too, so penetration seems impossible (Oh, yeah, Y'golnac and Surtur were in there as well).

OK, I'll take the stairs down and do the trick to find out what I am going to miss. Went from 18 artifacts to 31, so there are 13 inside. My eyes spot Diatribe among them ... 15 levels out of depth. Shit, I just can't live with missing that artifact, it is just too damn good. Even the +3 Wis will help out this character. OK, back up the stairs and the vault is still there. Good.

Here is how I did it, and I was very lucky. First, I lured Biketal out and about. I tried to take him on (my speed staff got drained by a Master Lich right off the bat before I knew what was on this level) but he owned me. Teleport. (And ?oTeleportation were very precious on this level). So I had parked Biketal where he would not return to the vault.

Back in. Power to the first Metal Cap about 5 squares in (2 were in there, and 1 seemed impossible to reach). Damn, Infravision. But wait, here comes a Cthonian. Hmmmm ...

I let that damn w beat on me for about 20 minutes, teleporting away at deaths door about 15 times. The earthquake did a good job clearing out some of the toughies, but things were still looking bleak, and I was down to 400hp max due to my Con being drained.

Then I found a Staff of Genocide. Bye Bye spectral wyrm. Bah Bye Warp Demon. More pounding from the Cthonian. Found a ?oMass Genocide. This cleaned up all but Iketa and Y'golnac and Ungoliant on the path to Diatribe. I checked my inventory to discover a lone scroll of *destruction*.

BAM! And the cap is mine. Blew up Runespear, Amber (ouch), Anarion, and Earendel to get it, but I'll trade those four for Diatribe any day of the weak!

Still left are Thranduil and the Black Arrow of Bard, but both are well guarded.

It's time to retreat!

Nice! Very, very painful to give up Amber, and the others were nice, but definitely the right call. Diatribe is THE helm for warrior-types, you shoudl accept no substitutes.

Wow, you certainly deserve Diatribe after braving all those monsters at +4 base speed! Congrats! Though, you know you did luck out majorly by being able to Genocide the Spectral Wyrm and Warp Demon ^^ (unless you were carrying Scrolls of Recharging with you?)

That trick with the Cthonian--hm, I'll have to remember that for future reference.

Complete and total luck ... agreed. I wasn't even carrying any teleport other! (Warp Demons don't resist teleport) Sigh ...

Dead ... Killed Dworkin easily. His death turned me into a statue and just killed me.

Sigh ...

I guess Shards resistance is prerequisite before killing Amberites ... I'll remember this next time.

Hmmm... Cyberdemons are speed +10. I was speed +17. Yet the Cyberdemon got 4 rounds of attacks against me, suggesting I was a statue for atleast 6 of my moves. Weird. I always knew the 1d3 "turns" spoiler on the statue effect was incorrect ... unless it means 1d3 "turns" for a 0 speed player.

Ouch! Proof that the change to reinstate AFC with Summon Cyberdemon does indeed have an effect.

That's too bad... you were doing so well too!

According to:
http://www.zangband.org/Spoilers/Ancient-Curse.aspx

Killing Amberite causes 1+1D3 invocations of the curse.

So, I'm guessing you got hit with 2 Statue-Effect TY curses, and 1 Summon Cyberdemon one.

It summoned Cyberdemons on dlevel 57? For some reason I thought there was a depth limit on that particular effect.

I got the Cyberdemon summon in the Cloning Pits (DL45) once. I think it is less likely at shallow depths, though.
