The RNG must really really like me ... With just 5,000gp to my name (nobody in the town likes Balrogs) I spot a +18 ring of damage ... 75% off! With the discount, it was 4,700gp, so just barely affordable. Now Doom Quest I nets Cambeleg! Suddenly I can melee very well indeed!

So much for Cambeleg ... a Devilfish got the first disenchantment on it and Hagen just picked up another. Down to (+6, +5). Oh well, there is always Fingolfin ;-)

Completed at CL25, but thanks to that most precious of spellbooks, probably my favorite spellbook in the entire game, I am now CL26. But suddenly I realize how stupid I am ... I think I will pick Int at CL30.

Oh, lost in all the joy and excitement was Arvedui as my first armour of resistance. Covering nexus is nice too ...

Nice start. I never, ever pass up the Mimic Quest. In my experience, its always generated by far the best treasure of any of the early quests (with Doom Quest 1 a distant 2nd).

I've noticed that your characters seem to sport Minotaur of the Labryinth kills relatively early on. What's the fascination with the Labrynith?

On 26.11.2005 02:57 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:
Nothing more than a rod of recall. For my current character, a ?oRecall costs nearly 300gp ... this can bleed you dry over time. Plus scrolls burn up, and you always have to buy more. I just like the rod, and the Minotaur is a pushover for a DL40 monster.

Actually, with Detect Treasure, it is far more profitable timewise to dig for money. To give you an idea, a 3rd spell book, which was netting 22,500gp for my High Elf warrior now only yields 6,500gp. Most non-ego weapons that are typically 1,000gp net 200-300gp. Gold is scarce when you are a Balrog!

Well, this will take some time. Bored of the mine, despite the low risk infinite gold. So back to Angband I go. I still need Poison and Chaos resistance before the Cloning Pits, not too mention a whole lot more power! Let's see ... 6 hours and 21 minutes of play so far. For a character like this, I would estimate 10-12 hours before Cloning Pits completion, unless I got incredibly lucky covering the basics. I'm just too weak at the moment!

Jurt was kind enough to drop Quickthorn, giving some much needed Resistances and decent melee to boot. So much so that I decline to wield my newly acquired Zantetsuken. But stealth has taken a blow ... and I think I better wait just a bit on the Cloning Pits. Better to go in overpowered than underpowered when such an important piece of equipment is on the line. Looking for a decent shield and shooter, as well as more stat potions (only Str and Int have been found in the dungeon so far in over 5 hours at stat potion depth ... I've also bought 3).

Let the quest begin! First 'It' dropped Hammerhand! That helps quite a bit ...

I *love* this quest. So much power to be gained! Everything was smooth and easy until I got to the ants, because a Great Hell Wyrm was lurking. Not many CL32 characters can boast that Hell Wyrm is no bother, but with double fire resistance, a 228 AC, over 600hp and dishing out 450damage a round, that wyrm never stood a chance.

9 artifacts gained including:
[1] Hammerhand. Quite a trade up from the helm of beauty I was wearing!
[2] Celegorm with Shards as its random resist.
[3] Colluin. Poison resistance at last!
[4] Mook. There's nice AC and Chaos resistance if I need it later.
[5] Isildur. Nice AC and Con boost.
[6] Lore. Piece of junk ;-)
[7] Faramir.
[8] Boromir. On these last two, I still need my +5 Int amulet, so I will enjoy them later.
[9] Shiva's Avatar, the reward of course!

Fun! Fun! Fun!

Well, I am trying to dive down to DL52 in the lair so I can pick on Storm Wyrms, when I run into a freakin' Bubble Vault! Wow! Let's see ... Caldarm the Third was inside, but blinked out. OK, I better not teleport. What's that Dragon, Bramd? Nope, Spectral Wyrm, and it is guarding the entrance to all the goodies. I sellout. Its first move is to summon dragons, including a Hell Wyrm, and 3 others. Keep going. It took all 5 !oHealing to kill it, but kill it I did. Now I am out of healing, but this level is very special (Turns out there were 10 artifacts inside). I am just coming into form with Passwall, and that allowed me to dispatch much nastiness like Narse and others. There was a second Spectral Wyrm inside, but I got good antisummoning position and it blinked early, and out of the vault. And here's the wrap. Like I said, 10 artifacts and I technically missed Winblows, but that was too well guarded. Big takes include Genji, Soulsword and Anarion. Avavir, Black Arrow of Bard, Holhenneth, and others were left behind.

Early vaults are tough when Preserve mode is off :-) But atleast I didn't miss Songmaster ...

Another Special level. In the meantime, I risked killing Brand, both because he is wanted, and for the slight chance he might oblige me with his speedy crossbow.

What a guy! Now I am fast!! I got the bloodcurse, but no statue and no summons ...

Well, I just went from CL39 to CL50 on a single level that was special, thanks mainly to 228 Great Wyrms of Law. I did not farm ... this was what it took to retrieve the level's artifact! Details are in the attached ***DANGER*** screenshots.

Time to leave the lair, I guess. I really want Songmaster, but I guess I can do with what I got. Shiva's armour means I am now playing without sound resistance, but do I really have any other choice?

Diving is slow with all the greater vaults. Current level has Gothmog (dead), Kaschei (dead), Drauglin (dead), Loki, Sauron and many many more. Not special, but I think it is a good level to remove some uniques.

And here is my first Daisy sighting, courtesy of Kaschei. Nice, as the Darkness resistance is just what the doctor ordered.

And 10 attacks with Mana Branding is quite effective!

Diatribe ... Sweet! All courtesy of your friendly neighborhood celestial dragon of good. Now I melee quite well! I figure Mana Branding adds an additional 400hp/round, so this has got to be one of my best single weapon damage output characters ever!

Now where is Songmaster ...

Failed once against the Unicorn, mainly because the Chemist got summoned and I could not separate the two. Ended up mistakenly *destructing* the Unicorn.

A bubble vault on DL99 gave Vilya while I have yet to find Tulkas, Narya and Nenya. I'm giving back some offense to wear it, only because running around on 18/130 Int for so long was very restrictive. I suppose Fingolfin might come back in for another (+10,+10) ... we'll see.

I want to slay the Unicorn before proceeding, so I will keep at it!

I've spent hours trying to kill the Unicorn. She summons the Chemist 1 time in 2 ;-)

Finally, in frustration, I switched to Death! The Unicorn was mauled by Hellfire!

I will now switch back to Craft for the Serpent, and I think I might leave the Chemist alone ...

Serpent was a pussycat. Took 10 minutes while the Unicorn took 2 hours. Hmmmm ...

I think I will probably call it quits and leave both the Arena and the Chemist alone.

OK, no Chemist this time. This character played a long time and gained a lot of experience by my standards, so I think enough is enough.

Craft rules, and this was one of the more powerful classes I have played. I fought better than most warriors and had 2 realms of spells to boot. Almost too easy :)
