(just bought Yavanna) through massive purchasing at the bookstore. I'm not doing so well in the artifacts dept. though. I'll probably finish my Ettin quest (42) soon, and maybe dive a bit after that.
On 1.3.2005 21:19 wrote: Well, I've filled in the last book (primal forces), and found some boots of speed +10 while questing, and a nice dagger for those ghosty types. I still intend on making some awesome boots of speed, but my armor forging isn't up there yet.
My time is ridiculous, I think, but hey, slow and steady wins the race. I'd really love some better components, but I'll have to dive some more to find them.
I'd really love to find an artifact cloak. Any would do.
On 2.3.2005 03:32 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Covering all the resistances with telepathy and +10 speed is something worth posting about, methinks.
Yay for armor(and bow) crafting!
On 2.3.2005 17:59 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Well, I just found these boots of blest, which grant +10 speed and light res and some mostly useless stuff like overlapping sustains and stuff. I just sold those boots of speed +10. I was lucky and actually identified the scroll of curse armor, instead of reading (I almost always read unided scrolls/potions). So now I probably won't bother with crafting boots. Of course, what am I supposed to do with all these time essences? I guess everything else I craft'll get an attempt at speed bonuses. I'm glad I started diving. The XP is much better now.
On 3.3.2005 04:00 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Shortly after drinking my first (and only, I hope) potion of death.
A feeling of Death passes through your body.
You are, apparently, reserved for another fate.
I was at 7hp after drinking the potion of detonations a while earlier... and mortally wounded, etc.
On 3.3.2005 16:50 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Maxed out Wrestling and spellcasting. I really like intervention of Yavanna. Dispel Evil (100), Heal(500), remove status ails, and bless (for a long time). Having bless is a god-send (pun intended) for a wrestler. Sure Aranruth is pretty good (esp against demons), but I like to wrestle. Stealing energy is awesome. Now if I could max out str and dex without losing any resistances...
On 4.3.2005 01:18 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: I just finished a 5 unique level: Baphomet, Ji Indur Dawndeath, Akhorahil the Blind, Scatha the Worm, and Fundin Bluecloak. None were particularly tough except Fundin with his Holy Smiting (I've got Black Dominion), but I made an antisummmoning corridor and meleed and healed as need be, and killed him with wither foe as he ran. Didn't get anything uniques from that level, but I've been wielding Anduril for a while now. IM_FIRE is nice, and the damage is pretty good. Much better against all those Dreadmasters I've been running into, even now that I have bless.
On 5.3.2005 15:43 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Hmmm...Well, this is my first non Pern/TOME character to reach 50th level. I've been diving fairly steadily, now as components have been rare (I generally surface to craft if it's worth it). I also surface to drop off artifacts and endgame loot. I could do with some more speed, even given that I can haste. Undead are certainly more of a nuisance than demons, and I can say that other than scrolls of acquirement, scrolls of summon the host of hell are my next favorite. I've got haste, blessing, proc evil, and heroism I can get regularly, so summoning 10000 xp in demons is fun and easy. A master quylthulg summoned muar and escorts and then some more demons. Dispelling them was fun and easy.
Some more uniques down: Ungoliant (found in a vault), Tevildo, Dwar, Muar, the Phoenix, Ren, Scatha.
In one chest I found both Collanon and the palantir. On a subsequent dive, I found the star. I'll keep Thranduil until I craft an awesome helm, as the xp drain isn't worth it yet. I've got IM_FIRE and IM_COLD, the latter from crafted gloves. I'm not sure if I've given up on wrestling or not. If I find Narya, I might consider swapping out. For now, I'm just diving as fast as I feel comfortable, pasting the walls with uniques. I'm not looking forward to the angels. I imagine antisummoning corridors will be in order to survive.
All in all, I'm happy with this character. Anduril rocks, by the way.
On 6.3.2005 21:29 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Wow. I just finished a 8 unique level. Only 6 were there to begin with. I got a double "you sense a dangerous place". Using excessive amounts of anti-summoning corridors, I finished off:
Saruman of Many Colors,
Gabriel, the Messanger,
Carcaroth, the Jaws of Thirst,
Khamul (summoned by a grand master mystic),
The Emperor Quylthulg,
and Lungorthein, Balrog of the White Fire
I got 2 pieces of Adamant (my first 2), and a bunch of artifacts:
Holhenneth, Thorin (Ancalagon dropped it), Anguriel, Nevrast (I lost it earlier to crashing), Caspanion, and maybe some more.
I crafted a helm ('Orthanc's Peak') from Saruman's Adamant, and it's awesome (but I wish it gave RES_BLIND!), and mithril plate ('Heart of Ancalagon') from his. Now I've got max con, str, and wis, ESP, aggravate, and IM_FIRE, IM_ELEC, and IM_COLD.
The only rings I don't know of are tulkas, speed, the elven rings, and the one. I'm looking forward to any of those. I'll keep diving, and see what I can find. Only one angel to go, which is nice, as I dislike holy_smite.
On 7.3.2005 15:53 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Hmmm...this quest level was boring. It was one of those lots of 'p' and 'h' vaults with treasure rooms and lots of gold on the floor. Feagweth was killed outside the vault, and Tselakus was summoned and killed with leisure.
So far, of the uniques I know. Smaug and Fang have escaped my grasp.
I've completed immunities and resistances, maxed out con, str, and wis. I'd really love to find a new ring. I'm only shy the elven rings, the one, and rings of speed. Yep, I'm on dlevel 75 with no rings of speed. I've been pumping alchemy, maybe I'll try to make one...
4 immunities, all resists, with important stats maxed. I've got like 50 odd potions of healing, 5 *healing*, about 20 runes of protection scrolls. Am I ready to finish the game. Aside from killing more late uniques?
Let's see who's left:
Omarax, the Mouth of Sauron, Murazor, Tarrasque, Vecna, Cantoras, Qlzqqlzuup, Gothmog, and the dynamic duo themselves, Mr. Sauron, and Mr. Morgoth.
BTW, Is fast +24 sufficient? What are some strategies for killing Morgoth as a druid? Lots of dragon breath, I have a TON of essences. But at 150-200 dmg per breath, he'll still take 50 breaths of dragon. Is that too slow, or is wrestling a better option? With all the stealing energy and all.
On 7.3.2005 15:59 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Addendum: Is mbe(Ignite blaze) a valid strategy for offing Morgoth? That is igniting a bajillion blazes and then teleporting/bliking around. Using weather mastery to make it hot and breezy so the flame spread fast and burns hot?
Morgoth seems to have no resists (unless the edit file is wrong), and I've used that strategy to kill a lot of people (especially early), and even kill things which have IM_FIRE, which I think is like double resisting. Death molds have fallen to finre damage this way and have 1800 hp and IM_FIRE. Sure it takes a long time, but you don't have to be near the mold.
On 7.3.2005 19:24 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Just found Narya, and I still haven't found any rings of speed. Oh well, now I'm as prepared as I will be. Just craft some more *healing* potions and potions of mana, and move on deeper. Oh, now I can wrestle again, now that I have IM_FIRE elsewhere.
On 7.3.2005 23:54 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: I just found Aule. Boy did it have a lot of essences with it... Cantoras and Murzazor just fell. Cantoras dropped Barukkheled and the spear of Melkor, which I was entertaining the possibility of using in the last bit, but not now... Oh, and Murazor dropped Gil-galad, but that isn't nearly as impressive as it seems it might.
I've cruised down to dl88(err, since I typed this, now dl90), and there are only 5 uniques left (unless I've missed one). Fang, Qlzqqlzup, Gothmog, Sauron, and Morgoth.
On 8.3.2005 15:56 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Sauron wasn't too hard to fight. I didn't get any summons, and he never teleported far. He dropped some gloves with IM_ELEC, but I already was getting IM_COLD from my gloves.
Morgoth was a different matter. I found him in a vault (a boring one), and he came right out to me, and I did a lot of bouncing and recharging. I pretty much killed him with doom bolts (always beams, does mana damage), and he was a summoning fool. He summoned up a storm, and I was dropped to 90ish hp (ty potion of life!). My real problem was mana. But in the end, he fell to an Intervention of Yavanna (I needed the healing he needed the wounding). I failed to grab his drops as I was a little outgunned and out of restore mana, and the level wasn't clear at all. So I recalled, and here I am.
