So far, so good. Just a bit unsure how deep should I dare to venture; My equipment is quite poor, although the Westernesse-pike and Dwarven chainmail (which I bought from BM with 90% discount) are quite nice.

You'd get at least 3 blows with a lighter weapon.

You'd need another source of see invis though.

On 27.5.2004 22:19 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Yes, you're definitely right. The Westernesse-pike keeps monsters away just barely; Practically it's inefficient and becomes more and more useless as I descent. Apart from a nice sling, RNG has offered me only junk.

On 28.5.2004 04:23 urmud@urmud.com wrote:
Resists aren't important until at least 1000' if you have good damage and can heal.

So here's what you do.
1. Buy a main gauche
2. Enchant it to +5
3. Buy a ring of see invis
4. leave pike and res_fire at home

That'll cost you about 2250 gold, and triple your damage.

On 28.5.2004 18:07 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Switched the Westernesse-pike to an enchanted Gauche, and later on found the artifact dagger. Very nice, although I'm bit nervous for having no SI.

On 28.5.2004 19:18 wrote:
You can buy a ring of SI at the black market.

Until then, stay above 500' and slaughter orcs.

Also watch for a steel helm and metal shod boots.

On 29.5.2004 10:38 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Finally! =oSI! 1000' seems quite safe, I haven't had much trouble lately, I think I'll start my slow descent now.

I came across a nice halberd, but I'm not fully convinced that it is better than Dethanc. Even though it has one blow less, it's supposed to do more damage. However, I'm not sure how much Dethanc's "electric branding" has effect?

When fighting against Sangahyando, I noticed just how great "Protection from Evil" is. I wouldn't have stood any chance against Sangahyando, but with PoE it was a breeze getting rid of him.

On 29.5.2004 21:04 urmud@urmud.com wrote:
Elemental brands triple the base damage vs creatures not resistant, so dethanc would do 6d4+7.

I have to get me one of those.

Nice sling too. You should carry some shots to kill acid and stat-draining creatures from a safe distance.

On 29.5.2004 23:00 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
So it's substantially better. More so after I invested in enchantment-scrolls ;) I also bought a nice cloak in BM, at least it doesn't get so easily disenchanted by those thrice-damned water hounds. I'm eagerly waiting for the Phial or some other nice lighting device so that I can get rid of that stupid cap. A nice, acid resistant helmet would suffice, please RNG?

On 30.5.2004 13:00 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Doing great, I guess. An Ancient Gold Dragon almost got me killed; Silly me when I thought I could actually beat it.

One unique has caused much hatred, Draebor the Imp. Is there any way I could prevent its teleport-level -spells so that I can kill it?

On 30.5.2004 19:47 urmud@urmud.com wrote:
I'm not sure about this, but I think unlike some other uniques, you can confuse him which would prevent any spells from being cast.

I'm finally started maxxing my stats; In addition, I've started finding better equipment, like artifacts. I'd still love a permanent source of light, though. Where's the phial (or preferably the even better light sources)

A troll dropped nice (although cursed) boots!

Doing quite well, although I would have loved Hold Life and better AC, but at the moment this set with speed+6 and blindness & nexus resistance will do.

On 6.6.2004 16:04 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Still doing fine, but I wonder how deep could I go without getting killed? I'm having only minor trouble with some monsters (and of course life draining is sucking) but majority of the nasties mostly dull and pose no real threat.

On 9.6.2004 04:05 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
I've found *at least* 6 Raal's Tomes of Destruction. Where are the better priest books? On the other hand I'm doing fine; Still alive, and not having enormous trouble surviving, although a better AC would be nice. And better permanent speed.

On 12.6.2004 19:04 bigjq@phnet.fi wrote:
Just found a nice amulet! Too bad it took away the nexus resistance and +1 speed, but instead I now hold life and a "permanent source" of restore life levels. The little decrease in speed doesn't matter, since the rod of speed is always there to boost me when needed ;)

This was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm really not so mad at myself; I had previously taken care of 4 master mystics, even when my character was weaker. This one knocked me out and avenged the death of his friends.

Is there some clever to avoid getting knocked out? In case I someday make it this far again.

Holy crap! I can't believe you got a rod of speed at such a low depth.

As for advice, the best I can give is keep your HP at high levels. I always try to keep at least 80% of my HP.
