I first started playing French Aesthetes as a joke, but their equipment advantages combined with innate *ID*, phase door, satisfy hunger, word of recall, and strong healing means that they're surprisingly effective once past the very early game. In Jean-Christophe's case, he was level 4 when he saw a tres chic Robe (Etheric) with +2 speed and mana in the black market at a discount. Of course, he just had to have it, so he got to work on enhancing daggers for resale despite his max SP being lower than the cost of the power. There were a lot of failures, and this had a bad effect on his Ego that he never really shook off, but once he could afford the robe he had enough mana to start mass-producing enhanced items and could afford excellent gear for himself. Almost everything he owned was from stores in town, with the only significant exception being his waistcoat, which was dropped by the Invisible Man. Sadly, speed and overconfidence kill, and he was dead before he knew what had happened when Robur came along. We miss you, Jean-Christophe.
