At these depths its still quite managable - I just avoid meleeing any acid/fire monsters (which is easy since I don't melee anything), and always target breathers first (and hide in corridors if there are more than one). Occasionally spellbooks still get destroyed, but the nice thing about mystics is multiple redundancy - there is nothing critical in any book that doesn't have an equivalent in another.

It never happened to this character that more than one book was destoryed at any time, but if it would happen, I'd recall to town.

Mutliple redundancy is nice, if you can adfford learning some spells 2 times. I still wouldn't like to stay without Cure Disease, Stone to Mud, or Identify, at least.

Cure disease is nice but not essential - if I lose it, that just means I need to be more careful around disease attackers.

Stone to mud can be annoying to lose, but at these depths the chances for closed vaults are quite small so it, too, is a luxury.
