There's something definitely wrong with throwing. At level 4 I can finally bash fruit bats to death with the shovel, yet throwing rocks & daggers always miss.

I think I'll wait till a new version comes out to play this variant any further

A hunch: do you have better luck throwing in a direction towards an enemy as opposed to targeting them directly?

Didn't notice a difference, though oil works if I smash it against a wall instead of aiming at the target.

One other suspicion I have: throwing/shooting in a direction that isn't north/south/east/west is much less accurate. Like, I can consistently hit enemies if they're in a direct line with me in a cardinal direction; if they're not, and I try hitting them with a thrown item, it usually doesn't hit.

Closed to workable throwing I've had is the guided throwing spell. It's interesting the credits mention sangband & ranged looks very close to how sangband behaves if you don't take any skill pts.

melee seems to have hard cut off pts. The difference between always miss & usually hit seems quite small.
