Thought !true sight would let me see the lurking horror...guess not

But even if I did see it, I probably still would have died. Entranced me followed by a double crit.

Evasion based build...but entranced puts me at -5 evasion regardless of evasion investment, so I'm basically a plant.

Thought I had enough will too.

It's times like these that you wish you were a smith so you could craft some boots with freedom of movement. But then you remember being a smith isn't all rainbows and sunshine either.

Ffs, I should have used my staff of light. Forgot I had it.

Or maybe drop the lesser jewel? I think those give extra light but only when they're on the floor?

Lurking Horrors aren't invisible so !True Sight won't help. As you say, _Light and/or dropping your lesser jewel would combat the darkness.

Yea, I guess I was getting too comfortable. Out of depth monsters and whispering shadows always give me quite the scare. I would think it's just another Nightthorn, then boom, it touches you! it touches you! 20 HP gone. Doesn't help that I often still only have 1-2 light range at that point. _Light and brilliance ego helmets aren't reliably found. And I don't get (inner light) because I opt for (keen senses) instead for shadows and sulrauko.

I wasn't expecting to see a lurking horror. I thought it was another whispering shadow. I died in two turns. Entranced both times. I don't think I play more carelessly or quicker than the average player, but Sil is so punishing sometimes. Reminds me of Brogue traps. You can avoid 1000 traps, but miss one and you might find yourself dead (or your ally dead which is pretty much game over if you're running ally build).

I will usually pick up both keen senses and inner light.

On 13.1.2017 19:33 protopulse wrote:
Could try that. Would be a little more expensive getting poison resistance and hardiness, but inner light pretty much nullifies dark serpents, lurking horrors, whispering shadows, etc.
