Really, the chest may have killed me but wasn't the issue, beyond the facts that (1) being unable to open it frustrated me and (2) I did not think to search it for traps first.

The problem with this character was that I was trying to avoid putting too many points into Perception. But the Greaves of Treacherous Paths stood in the way of that plan; I didn't want to drop them, as they were {special}, but carrying them around led to too many dangerous encounters and no time to rest. Without some way to ID them, I was doomed sooner or later.
