Food is getting to be a problem, should maybe take Mind Over Body. Or maybe my amulet is Regen.

Yes, I didn't think about what else you would want to put the experience into. You will indeed want more melee later so it is definitely not wasted. The main question is whether there are any things more immediately useful that will also help in the long run. As you say, Critical Resistance is a good example.
